Intensive Interaction is an approach to teaching the fundamental skills needed for communication to children and adults who have severe or profound learning difficulties and/or autism and who are still at an early stage of communication development.

The fundamental skills needed for communication, or pre-verbal social skills include eye contact, shared attention, cause and effect, turn taking, and imitating others.
