Looking for a figurative language activity for William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing? This resource invites students to identify various types of figurative language found in Shakespeare's play.

The resource features a glossary with definitions of 8 types of figurative language as well as examples of how they're used in passages from the play. The resource also includes a two-page quiz in which students have to identify the type of figurative language used in each of 25 quotations from Much Ado About Nothing. For teachers, the resource features an answer key that will enable you to grade students' quizzes quickly and efficiently.

• Glossary of Figurative Language: The glossary features definitions for the 8 types of figurative language which appear most prominently in Much Ado About Nothing: metaphor, simile, metonymy, paradox, oxymoron, personification, apostrophe, and hyperbole. The glossary also includes examples of how Shakespeare uses each type of figurative language in passages from early scenes in the Much Ado. So you'll be able to review the types of figurative language with students before they've finished the play — and before they take the quiz. (1 page)
• Quiz on Figurative Language: The quiz challenges students to identify 8 types of figurative language — metaphor, simile, paradox, oxymoron, personification, apostrophe, and hyperbole — used across 25 quotations from Much Ado About Nothing. (2 pages)
• Answer Key: The answer key provides the correct answer for each question on the quiz. Having an answer key will enable teachers to grade and return the quiz with speed and efficiency. (2 pages)

This resource should accompany Kwame Alexander's novel The Door of No Return. This resource covers vocabulary words from each chapter of the book. This is what you will receive in this Google Drive folder:

- A list of vocabulary words from each chapter. 10 words in chapters 1-5 & 7, 14 words in chapter 6 (there were just so many good ones)

- A worksheet for each list which asks students to identify the line or sentence in which they see the word. Then they need to guess at the definition using context clues. There is also a place for the dictionary definition so they can check how they did with the context clues.

- A self-grading Google Forms test for each vocabulary list. The students must choose the correct word to match the definition from a dropdown list. Then they must type the correct vocabulary word to fill in sentence blanks.

- An Easel test for each vocabulary list. These tests are identical to the Google Forms tests mentioned above. However, Easel does not have a fill-in-the-blank option. Students will choose the correct word from the list to fill in the blank. All questions are single select.

- A link to my Quizlet folder for this novel. It contains individual vocabulary sets for each chapter.

- A sheet that looks similar to a Frayer model. It is blank and can be used with any vocabulary word. Students can use this to identify the definition, part of speech, synonyms, and antonyms. They will also write a sentence using the word and draw a picture for the word. These sheets come in color and black & white.

- Two PDF files that contain 135 vocabulary words from the entire novel. One word can be assigned to each student, and they can share what they learn about the word.

- A few other activities that can be used with any vocabulary word. An acrostic poem sheet, a word web sheet, a doodle notes sheet.

This 20-page EDITABLE document contains vocabulary lists for all 9 chapters of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. The document also contains a vocabulary and reading quiz for every chapter. Expanding students' vocabularies may be one of the most important things that we can do as high-school English teachers.

Here is what's included in this product:

• Vocabulary Lists: Lists of 10-12 vocabulary words for every chapter, complete with a definition and a sample sentence with the word as used in The Great Gatsby. A total of over 100 SAT-worthy words. (9 pages)

• Vocabulary & Reading Quizzes: Quizzes with 10 questions per chapter. Build students’ vocabularies while holding them accountable for the nightly reading homework. Each quiz contains 7 questions on vocabulary words plus another 3 questions on reading comprehension. Grading these quizzes is simple and quick. They’re an easy way to log up to 9 grades in your gradebook. (9 pages)
