1.Session 1: Welcome and Introduction to Anger Management (Exploring Triggers) - In this foundational session, children are introduced to the group and the concept of anger management. Through thoughtful discussions and interactive activities, participants explore their anger triggers, gaining valuable insights into what makes them angry and how they respond to it.

2.Session 2: Rainbow Emotional Regulation - In the second session, children delve into the concept of emotional regulation using the metaphor of a rainbow. They learn to recognize various emotional states, understand what these emotions look and feel like, and explore how to achieve emotional balance through engaging and interactive activities.

3.Session 3: Red and Green Choice Behavior Choices - Session 3 centers on helping children distinguish between "red" (unhelpful) and "green" (helpful) behavior choices when they experience anger. Through interactive games and exercises, participants reinforce the importance of making constructive choices in dealing with their anger.

4.Session 4: Helping and Hurting Hands (Physical Aggression) - The fourth session introduces the concept of helping and hurting hands, focusing on addressing physical aggression. Children engage in interactive activities designed to explore alternatives to physical aggression and learn how to express their anger safely.

5.Session 5: Dragon Breaths (Deep Breathing) - In Session 5, deep breathing is presented as an effective coping strategy for anger management. Through activities like "Dragon Breaths," participants practice deep breathing techniques, empowering them to control their emotional responses constructively.

6.Session 6: Keep Your Cool Calming Strategies, Termination, and Review - The program culminates in the sixth session, where children learn various calming strategies to manage their anger, including visualization, counting, or using a designated "calm down" corner. This final session also serves as an opportunity for participants to review what they've learned throughout the program. To reinforce their newly acquired skills, children engage in a creative "cool down ice-cream craft," making this curriculum not only informative but fun and memorable.

"When I Feel Left Out" Helping Children Manage Social Exclusion

By Joyful Explorations

Help young children learn to identify and manage their hurt feelings when they are left out or excluded by their peers with three simple steps.

This packet includes:

*A printable letter for families titled, “I’m Not Your Friend”. This letter helps to reassure families that while hearing the words “I’m not your friend” may cause some hurt feelings, it’s not the end of the world for their child.

*12 page printable book, “I’m not your friend.” This book features an adorable little monster who negotiates friendship dilemmas and learns how to ask for help when he needs it.

*”Can I Play?” - Sometimes children are excluded because they don’t have the social skills to ask to play. This section of the packet teaches children three important rules of asking to play. (Includes a color poster of the three important rules)

*Five social scenarios that will help children learn the 3 rules of asking to play. The first three scenarios are for you to read to the children. These are intended to inspire class discussions. The last two include questions so that the children can decide what the characters should do next.

*"What if they say no?” Advice for how to handle those sticky situations when a child asks to play and the other children say, “no”.

*”Feelings Shield”- A visual cue for children to use for defending themselves against other people’s hurtful words or actions. Included are shields with written affirmations as well as a blank shield so that children can draw their own positive pictures.

*Common Interest Bingo”- This game will help children find others who share the same interests so that they can make new friends. Making friends will give them more choices of people to play with so that they won’t experience feeling left out as often.

*Friendship Flowers- A visual cue to help children remember some of the skills they can use to make and keep friends.

*Please keep in mind that bullying is NEVER ok. Teaching children how to handle hurt feelings does not mean that you tolerate bullying. If you feel that there is bullying behavior in your school, it is your responsibility as a teacher to end it.

Behavior Reflection Sheets, Anger Management & Emotional Regulation Activities

By Mrs Bell The Crafty Counselor

Behavior think sheets can be a powerful emotional regulation tool for elementary-aged students. Anger regulation, calming strategies, coping skills, and self-regulation tools are much more effective if students are in a calm state when they try to utilize their skills.

Think time allows a person to step back and reevaluate their current situation, preventing them from acting in the heat of the moment. Once calmer, children can then think of how to handle the situation from a rational perspective. The included behavior think sheets and calming strategy resources aim to do just that.

Included in this Download:

  • Keep Your Cool Posters (featuring 19 different calming strategies)
  • FlipBook for Student Use
  • Don’t Have a Meltdown Chart (19 strategies in chart form)
  • Bookmarks and Desk Charts
  • Behavior Think Sheets

Think time allows children a safe outlet to bounce around ideas of what they did, where they went wrong, and what they are going to do about it. It allows children to process the information without feeling the need to become defensive or protect themselves. They can problem solve and come up with their own solutions, allowing for tremendous personal growth and development!

Think time allows everyone to take a step back, think about what happened, and why it didn’t work, as well as provide time to brainstorm solutions. This is a very effective coping skill that we should instill in our young people as early as possible. The quicker they are able to think about emotionally charged situations from a rational perspective, the better off they will be in life.

Let’s teach our students how to keep their cool and not have a meltdown by giving them the tools to step back from emotionally charged situations, evaluate possible solutions, and react from a rational place.

Tattling or Reporting - Tattle or Tell Game & Activities for Elementary School

By Mrs Bell The Crafty Counselor

It is vital that we teach our young elementary-aged students the difference between tattling vs reporting. Once students learn the difference, classroom interruptions are minimized, the important information is reported, and students understand how to recognize information that is important to tell adults.

During this game, students learn the difference between tattling and telling/reporting in an interactive and fun way. In the end, students will be able to recognize when they are tattling and when they are reporting important information that an adult needs to know.

Included in this Download:

  • Three Explanation Pages
  • Teacher Game boards (3 designs)
  • Monster Game boards (3 designs)
  • 81 Tattle or Tell Situation Cards

Print and laminate the three explanation pages, teacher and monster game board, and all 81 situation cards. Cut the situation cards apart and place them upside down in a pile. One at a time, students pick and read a card out loud. They then can use the three explanation posters to decide if this situation is a tattle or tell. Students will love playing this game and learning the difference between tattling and reporting.

Students will be challenged to ask themselves:

  • Is this my business?
  • Is someone in danger or hurting?
  • Was something done on purpose to harm me?
  • Is this something I cannot handle on my own?
  • Is this important information that an adult has to know?

In the end, students will have a clear understanding of what information the teacher needs to know! Empower your students to learn the difference between tattling vs reporting with this printable resource!
