This freebie kindergarten writing assessment comes with the prompt, "Would you rather have a dog or a cat as a pet? Why?". It includes two pages. One page comes with an optional grading rubric/student reflection at the bottom (aligned with CCSS). The second comes with just writing lines for students.
It aligns with following Common Core State Standards:
- Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose opinion piece (K.W.1)
- With guidance and support from adults, recall information from experiences or gather information from provided sources to answer a question. (K.W.8)

Writing a play is a perfect project that gives students time to write about an event that happened in their life or an event that they made up. Once they are finished, they can share it with different groups of people and have their friends play each character. This packet includes information to share with your students about what a play is, examples of plays they may see, what steps to follow when writing the beginning, middle and end of a play, and identifying the parts of a play. This packet also includes an example showing the process that is used to write a play using a brainstorming play chart. An example of the play chart and template is also included. On the last several pages, templates are included to help students write the rough draft and final draft of their play that includes space for characters, scenes, stage directions, and lines to show what their characters are saying.

Informational Writing Craft: My Favorite Animal

This product is especially fun for your class animal writing projects! It is a fun engaging writing task your students will enjoy. Prep Free! Ready to go!
Task:
1. Students are going to write a five sensory informational writing about your favorite animal using the Red Barn Craft Book pages.
2. This is a seven page-writing project: one page for the cover, one page for the topic sentence, four pages for the middle (five sensory writing: eye/see, hand/feel, ear/sound, mouth/food, + action), and one page for the conclusion.
3. Each student will choose an animal of his own to write.
Step by step assignment directions are giving using Teacher Writing Sample "Horses" as a model.
You could use this Red Barn Craft Book to write anything related to Animal Studies.
