Object of the game:

One player tries to get his teammate to guess the word at the top of a card. The player must give clues, but he can't use any of the Taboo words in his description. The taboo words are written beneath the underlined word at the top of the card.

Teams score points for each word successfully guessed. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

French This or That Activity - Ceci ou Cela French Icebreaker

By Love Learning Languages - French Resources

French This or That Activity - Ceci ou Cela French Icebreaker

This French ceci ou cela - this or that activity is perfect for back to school, end of the year, or anytime when everyone wants to have a little fun with French.

Use this "this or that" activity as a French speaking activity for partners or groups, as a whole-class activity you project for the entire class.

Alternatively, you can make this a moving around activity. Students start by standing in a big group. When the choices on the cards are read, they move to the side of the room that is associated with their choice (see the arrows on the cards). Those who can’t make up their mind or don’t have a preference remain in the center. Students will see all of the things that they have in common with their classmates and will likely learn some new vocabulary while they’re at it. This is a great back to school ice-breaker!

This activity requires no teacher prep once the set of cards is printed and cut out. If you don’t want to print, there’s a PDF with only one card per page that you can project and play as a whole class activity.

Included:

  • PDF of cards to project when you don’t want to print - One card per page
  • PDF of 50 cards to print and cut out - Four cards per page
  • Instructions on how to use this activity

By Love Learning Languages - French Resources

Play French scattergories when you need a quick, no prep activity to review and practice vocabulary. Le Petit Bac sera le jeu parfait! You can play this game with students of any age or level. 24 games are included with 96 different categories!

Players attempt to create answers for each of the four categories on their game. This should be a fast moving game and there are only spaces for six words per category. The MAXIMUM they can write is six words so they have to choose them wisely. Students can be creative and flexible with their answers, but other players can challenge them! Save with the bundle!

Expect your students to:

  • be competitive as they are challenged to make their lists
  • want to play again and again
  • practice several skills at once
  • enjoy stretching their thinking
  • practice brainstorming and fluency

French Taboo Games Growing Bundle

Classic French Taboo Games Bundle - 3 Versions

Object of the game:

One player tries to get his teammate to guess the word at the top of a card. The player must give clues, but he can't use any of the Taboo words in his description. The taboo words are written beneath the underlined word at the top of the card.

Teams score points for each word successfully guessed. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Beginner students should be allowed to use the French TABOO words printed on the cards. This will encourage them to use new vocabulary and will help them in forming sentences to use as clues.

This French Taboo vocabulary and speaking game includes the following:

  • How to play French Taboo (beginner and advanced levels)
  • 60 printable taboo cards in French and English
  • Page for recording new words in French in English

What teachers are saying about my French Taboo Speaking games:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "This is exactly what I've been looking for to consolidate and expand vocabulary! I teach a beginners intensive course (IB) as well as intermediate students who've done 2 years of French. Students love being able to guess, even being supported with a dictionary. LOVE the range of levels variety of vocab. Looking forward to the growing nature of this bundle. UN GRAND MERCI!!!" - L.J.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "Love this! Great design, great differentiation of playing for lower levels (or higher levels), and love that there are so many topics! Great words included in each one." - Ashley Lefevre

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "This is a great supplement for multi-level classes. I have students who are francophone and students who have never taken a French class before this year, so a resource like this is very much appreciated." - Missalineous

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "Absolutely loved this and so did my kids. Vocabulary is a weak spot so this is a great resource to help build school related vocabulary. Taboo is awesome!" - Classroom of a Caper

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "A great way to make the students use different vocab to express their ideas!" - Made by Mademoiselle

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "It was sooo good when I used it in my French class. I teach English and French in Spain and I'm decided to use it in both subjects for the coming year. I needed two lessons because the students had so much fun that they asked me to play another day!" - Ester B.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "Thank you! I like how there is a beginner version of the game - perfect for my core French students!" - Janesse M.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "This is my second set of Taboo cards from Love Learning Languages, as the first round with reflexive verbs was a huge hit. Kids again enjoyed this review of vocabulary terms. This can be differentiated for students at various levels of confidence and ability." - Rebecca C.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "This was a very useful resource to purchase and I would recommend it to any junior teacher! Everything you needed was there and it was very organized resource. Looking forward to using it again this year!" - Kathleen E.

L'heure - Telling Time in French - 12 & 24 Hour Clock Battleship Games - BUNDLE

By Love Learning Languages - French Resources

L'heure - Telling Time in French - 12 & 24 Hour Clock Battleship Games - BUNDLE

Use this classic game format to have your students practice telling time in French using 12 hour and 24 hour clocks. These are NO PREP activities, just print and go.  10 versions of the game are included in this bundle.

Students randomly place ships on their grid at the top of the sheet by drawing filled in circles. The number of circles for each of their six battleships is indicated at the top of the page.  As they try to discover the location of their opponent's ships, they use the grid on the bottom of the sheet to keep track. Instructions are provided in English on each page. Have a look at the preview to see what these games look like.

A list of hours is written in the left column, and minutes are written on the top in numeric form. Students randomly match the hours on the left with minutes at the top.

There is not an answer key included with this resource due to the number of possible responses.  These games will give your students a chance to use vocabulary for telling time with a 12 hour clock such as:  et quart, moins le quart, et demie, moins vingt, etc. The set which uses the 24 hour clock will be a good reminder not to use that vocabulary and to say the actual numbers.

How to play:

Print out one page of the version of this game that you want to use per student. Students draw circles to represent their boats on the grid at the top of the game board. Students play against each other to try to find and eventually sink their opponent’s boats.

Eight hours are written in the vertical column and minutes are written in the boxes at the top. To choose a square, the player must say an hour on the left along with minutes at the top.

All of the vocabulary they’ll need is written right on the game sheet.  Each game sheet includes two battleship grids, one for the student and one for keeping track of guesses.

CORE FRENCH | FSL | PIZZA PARTY | GAME-BASED LEARNING | 70 PAGES | JEUX

By French Made Fun!

This 76-page (it keeps growing) document has you covered for your next Core French unit. As with all of my Core French products, this resource is designed for a low-level FSL classroom but generates high engagement and interest for your "big" kids. My products work best for low-level Core French groups from grades 4-9.

This document is packed with all games, activities, drawing lessons, puzzles, speaking activities, writing activities and reading activities to REALLY get your students to open up and want to participate. It's differentiated (with potential activities for a variety of learners), and I provide guidance, links and suggestions so it runs smoothly.

Here are the goodies you'll find in here:

  • Recap on location prepositions (sur, sous, à gauche, à droite).
  • "Dessinons une pizza!" (a step-by-step guide to practice following directions related to location prepositions).
  • "Qu'est-ce que tu aimes sur ta pizza?" (Pizza vocabulary)
  • An interactive wheel game for students to practice ordering a 3-topping pizza!
  • An activity on calculating the totals and saying prices en Français.
  • "Où est M. Pizza?" - A hide-and-seek interactive whiteboard game.
  • "Est-ce que tu préfères..." - A game to get your kids moving and showing preferences.
  • A word wall with all vocabulary seen in the unit and a suggestion for a fun class activity!

(FR) MIDDLE SCHOOL CORE FRENCH - MON AVENTURE EN ESPACE

By French Made Fun!

This 64-page resource will provide you with ample activities, games and subject matter for roughly 2 weeks (or more) of Core French at the grades 5-7 level. As with all of my Core French material, the vocabulary and sentence structure is VERY beginner and some English is used on the worksheets to help them understand the tasks.

I was tired of seeing the same babyish activities and content for Middle School Core French so I listened to them and their interests. Ta-da!

In this document, you'll find:

  • Basic vocabulary introduction to Space,
  • Message du matin on "Ma planète préférée",
  • Quick class survey on "Ma planète préférée",
  • A listening activity on "quel temps fait-il dans l'espace?" for all 8 planets with a fill-in-the-blanks activity to keep their attention,
  • A "Cache-cache" game with the 8 planets (whole group activity),
  • A game: "Toucher l'image" with the 8 planets (whole group activity),
  • A cut & paste activity on our solar system,
  • An activity for students to research planets and to colour in a template,
  • An activity for students to invent their own planet,
  • Mots-cachés espace,
  • A colouring page,
  • A space maze,
  • A colour & cut puzzle,
  • Space trivia,
  • Space Bingo with call-out cards with 11 different Bingo cards.

If your students are tired of the same run-of-the-mill worksheets and readings from resource books that no longer suit the demographic, they might also enjoy:

As with all of my products, my brain doesn't shut off and any improvements or additions I make to my documents become immediately available to you as they are shared within your Google Drive. On that note, send me an email if you have a theme you'd like me to add to this set.

If you're on the hunt for more game-based learning and project-based learning for your hard-to-reach, hard-to-impress middle-schoolers, have no fear! I've got a bundle with all of it right here.
