By Colleen Burdette
Engaging Activity:
Students take different approaches to dividing by a fraction in this Google Slide activity. Students will choose an expression based on a number line and diagram. They will find common denominators. Also, students will use the standard algorithm to solve a division of fraction problem.
Students will enter their answers into a Google Form, when complete they will be able to access a video to mark their success.
I use this as a review before a test.

Fraction BINGO (Simplifying & Equivalent) Digital & Print Heart-Themed
By SPO Resources
Practice and review simplifying fractions and finding equivalent fractions with this BINGO game. Perfect for math centers or whole group games during all of February. The game includes 3 differentiated levels of calling cards and 30 different heart BINGO boards available in digital and print. Use the digital option to play virtually or as a no-prep paperless option.
The following formats are included:
★Fraction BINGO boards- 30 (digital & print)
★3 Differentiated levels of calling cards (digital & print)
★Blank Bingo Board Template
★Teacher Directions for Use
******************************************************************************************
Use these heart BINGO boards to practice simplifying fractions and finding equivalent fractions with students.
The BINGO boards all contain fractions in their simplest form. The calling cards are fractions that need to be reduced to their simplest form.
Students find the greatest common factor of each fraction and divide both the numerator and denominator by the GCF to find their answer.
Differentiated levels to meet the range of ability levels in your class. Work your way through the levels as students become more fluent in the skill of simplifying fractions.
SAVE TIME and ENERGY creating engaging math centers or review games. Use the digital versions for a paperless no prep option. With multiple levels for play, this game can be a staple activity for math centers during the month of February.
*****************************************************************************************************
Differentiated Calling Card Levels
Calling cards are differentiated by level. Simplifying fractions and finding equivalent fractions can be difficult for students. The differentiated levels will scaffold the skill as students build understanding and fluency with the concept of simplifying fractions.
★Level 1- Double the Simplified form (x2)
All calling cards in this level have a GCF of 2. The calling cards are double the simplified form. Students find the answer by dividing the calling card by 2/2. This level will help students gain an initial understanding of simplifying fractions and finding equivalent fractions.
★Level 2- Mixed Set 1: (x2, x3, or x5 simplified form)
All calling cards in this level have a GCF of 2, 3, or 5. This level is designed to build off the previous level, but still scaffold the skill. Students only need to choose from 3 factors to find their answer.
★Level 3- Mixed Challenging Set
This level contains a mixture of fraction call cards that have factors ranging from 2-10. This is the most challenging level as students will have a range of factors to choose from when simplifying the fraction.
All fraction boards include 24 fractions in their simplest form with denominators of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, & 12.
*****************************************************************************************************
WHO? This set is designed for fourth and fifth-grade students learning to find equivalent fractions by reducing a fraction to the simplest form.
Common Core Aligned to 4th grade Number & Operations- Fraction Standard:
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.NF.A.1
Explain why a fraction a/b is equivalent to a fraction (n × a)/(n × b) by using visual fraction models, with attention to how the number and size of the parts differ even though the two fractions themselves are the same size. Use this principle to recognize and generate equivalent fractions.
Activity supports 5th grade Number & Operations- Fraction Standard:
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.NF.A.1
Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) by replacing given fractions with equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like denominators. For example, 2/3 + 5/4 = 8/12 + 15/12 = 23/12. (In general, a/b + c/d = (ad + bc)/bd.)
*****************************************************************************************************
WHAT’S INCLUDED:
★Printable BINGO Boards
★Blank BINGO Boards
★Digital BINGO Boards
★3 Levels of Printable Calling Cards
★Answer Keys
★3 Levels of Digital Calling Cards
★Heart Manipulatives
★PDF File with instructions for use and access to digital resources

Want to know if your 7th grade math students can calculate a unit rate and compare proportional relationships in the same and different representation?
This presentation includes 10 questions (23 slides total) that has students work in groups to determine which statement is true between two given proportional relationships. Which has the higher unit rate? Which has the lower unit rate? Which of the two representations is actually proportional? Teams must be able to work together to determine the answer, then back up their answers verbally.
Great as a review activity before an exam, or as a mid-unit formative assessment to track progress towards mastery.
This lesson also includes a quick paper/pencil exit ticket students can do individually so you can assess each students' mastery of proportional relationships, with answer key included.

Regrouping Mixed Numbers--Practice for Subtraction
By Colleen Burdette
Engaging skill practice:
Students will manipulate items on a Google Slide to regroup mixed numbers. Students will complete squares by adding a square which shows a mixed number which match a base when 1 is borrowed from the whole number involved. This is an important skill to master in order to smoothly subtract mixed numbers.
My students often regroup from the whole number in a mixed number by adding 10 to the numerator of the fraction. I use this activity to help instill the understanding that the whole in a mixed number rarely has a value of 10 pieces of the whole. By having limited choices for the answers, students understand how the regrouping works in a better way.
