Pilgrims & First Thanksgiving Close Reading Digital & Print | 5th & 6th Grade

By Creative Primary Literacy

A Google Forms close reading passage with comprehension and grammar questions followed by an extension task about the Pilgrims that arrived in the United States on the Mayflower, and their first year as colonists including the first Thanksgiving ceremony. The NO PREP informational text activity is ideal for distance learning and perfect for students in fifth grade or sixth grade. The resource, which also comes in PDF format, allows students to learn key facts about U.S. History whilst working on their comprehension skills.

Included in this resource:

  • A Google Forms Close Reading Activity
  • A PDF Printable Activity with crossword puzzle & wordsearch

⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻

This resource is great for:

  • Distance learning
  • Independent work
  • Homework
  • Guided reading sessions
  • Assessment practice
  • Reading interventions
  • Emergency sub plans

This activity is an online resource, that uses Google Forms, and is linked to your Google Drive. It can be completed by students online using tablets, phones or computers, and is easily assessed by teachers as all the answers are provided in a quick and easy format.

⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻

Time allowance to complete:

5-10 minutes - read through the text individually.

40-50 minutes - answer questions using the text as guidance (including extension activity)

Time allowance to assess:

A class set of activities might take around 15-20 minutes to mark; the teacher can then send the students their marks automatically, which allows them to read back through their work. Nearly all answers are not automatically generated, but only require a small amount of work to assign points. This is because the aim is to get students writing answers and not to just have multiple choice options.

Please ensure when you download this resource into Google Drive that you are logged in to the gmail account where you wish to store the activity. In the past teachers have downloaded resources into their school account in error. Thanks :)

Order of Operations 3 DIGITAL PIXEL ARTS - THANKSGIVING - VARYING DIFFICULTY

By Mostly Middle School Math

For this activity, you and your students will need access to Google Sheets. For best use, each student should have their own device.

Engage your students in a fun and interactive way with this Math Pixel Art Activity with Google Sheets! Perfect for reinforcing order of operations, this activity challenges students to solve order of operation problem to reveal a hidden pixel art picture. Each set gets harder as they go, allowing you to differentiate for students!

What you're getting:

  • Pixel Art 1 - Level One (turkey)
  • Pixel Art 2 - Level Two (pumpkin pie)
  • Pixel Art 3 - Level Three (pilgrim hat)

There are 19 total problems in EACH pixel art, totaling 57 total problems.

How it works:

  • Students will solve a series of order of operation problems, each corresponding to a color or section of a pixelated image.
  • As they evaluate the expressions correctly, they "fill in" the picture, pixel by pixel, revealing a fun design at the end.
  • The more problems they solve, the clearer the image becomes, providing instant feedback and a sense of accomplishment!

Why it's great for the classroom:

  • Engaging & Interactive: Keeps students focused while practicing essential math skills.
  • Instant Feedback: Students can immediately see the results of their work, motivating them to keep solving problems.
  • Differentiation: Different levels of difficulty make it ideal for any classroom setting!

This Math Pixel Art Activity is a fantastic way to combine creativity with learning, making algebra fun and exciting for students of all ages!
