Each moment is a teaching moment, and this will allow reinforcement of their map reading skills. They will use the absolute locations that are provided on the key and identify the points on the coordinate grid, drawing one line from one point to another. Most American students are very familiar with Halloween, but have they ever heard of Día de los Muertos? Chances are they are already amped up at this time of year, so why not capitalize on this excitement by squeezing in a little extra cultural enrichment?

This resource includes a Day of the Dead reading comprehension (in English), a list of Spanish vocabulary words that cover key elements of both Day of the Dead and Halloween, and 8 different fun practice worksheets. These also make great bell-ringers, homework or work for early finishers!

Teach kids about gratitude through yoga and mindfulness

Teaching kids about gratitude is a mindset that will benefit them for years to come. Research tells us that gratitude has many benefits, including greater life satisfaction and better attitudes about school.

Gratitude provides perspective for kids–they can learn to see through the eyes of others, and through that, they can learn to form healthy relationships with themselves and others.

For children, gratitude can be experienced through direct experience, through dramatization, and through adult modeling. We’ve included games, meditations, activities, crafts, and yoga poses to help get in touch with a sense of gratitude.
