There is ONE Anticipation Guide that comes in two different variations:

▶️ Variation #1:

⭐ *Part 1: *The first section of the Anticipation Guide features a list of statements alongside columns labeled "AGREE" and "DISAGREE." Students are tasked with reading each statement and marking either "AGREE" or "DISAGREE" based on their perspective.

⭐ *Part 2: *The second section of the Anticipation Guide prompts students to choose a statement from the list above and delve into its significance to them. They may reflect on how the statement connects to their own lives, share a personal experience related to it, or elaborate on their thoughts concerning its importance in greater detail.

**▶️ Variation #2: **This Anticipation Guide worksheet format includes a list of statements accompanied by columns for "AGREE," "DISAGREE," and "COMMENTS." Students are instructed to read each statement and mark either "AGREE" or "DISAGREE." They are then encouraged to elaborate on their thoughts or ideas regarding each statement in the designated "COMMENTS" column.

SELF-ASSESSMENT

This resource includes a single Body Language Self-Assessment. Students will use the body language - related statements to reflect on their understanding of nonverbal communication, evaluate their ability to interpret and respect others’ cues, and identify areas where they can improve. They will score the statements using the following scale: 2 for “Regularly,” 1 for “Occasionally,” and 0 for “Never.” They will use this self-assessment as a tool to help them identify areas for growth and improvement in their ability to read, interpret, and use body language effectively in everyday interactions.

This assessment also serves as a valuable tool for initiating conversations about the importance of nonverbal communication in building positive relationships, fostering empathy, and enhancing overall social skills. It encourages students to recognize how body language can influence perceptions, convey emotions, and support effective communication in both personal and professional settings.

"Think Before You Speak" - Interactive SEL Activity

Creating a positive environment for students is a top priority, but it can be difficult when individuals lack an awareness of the impact of their words towards others, especially when it does not affect them in the same way. This activity brings awareness and a better understanding, while also increasing empathy and care toward others. I also like to remind students that we cannot control what other people chose to say and do, though we can take time to educate and create awareness, especially when something they are saying or doing is impacting us. This lesson can be customized to fit whatever statements would be most beneficial in recognizing within your school.

This lesson comes with a great icebreaker to set the stage, while providing a fun and interactive activity to truly test the classes knowledge of one another. All of my middle school classes have LOVED this activity so far and it has sparked a ton of conversation and connections! All you will need is a small piece of paper for each student and you're all set for a fun, interactive SEL lesson that focuses on community building, friendships, and connectedness + belonging! Enjoy.

This guide includes a full calendar year of 12 months of Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) themed months, with each month having a distinct theme. Included are daily journal prompts to encourage reflection and insight into personal growth, emotional awareness, and overall well-being.

The following themes are explored:

• January - New Beginnings: Start each day with prompts that encourage self-reflection on fresh starts, opportunities, and personal growth.
• February - Gratitude: Cultivate a mindset of gratitude through daily prompts that prompt reflection on positive aspects of life.
• March - Mindfulness: Develop mindfulness and presence with prompts tailored for daily reflection, promoting engagement in the present moment.

• August - Grit and Resilience: Cultivate grit and resilience through daily prompts that inspire facing challenges, persisting in the face of setbacks, and learning from adversity.
• September - Growth Mindset: Embrace a growth mindset through daily prompts exploring the power of effort, resilience, and continuous learning.
• October - Kindness: Foster a culture of kindness on a daily basis with prompts centered on acts of kindness, compassion, and the positive impact of generosity.
• November - Generosity: Reflect daily on the power of giving and generosity, exploring ways to contribute positively to the lives of others.
• December - Reflection and Gratitude: End each day with a focus on reflection and gratitude. Daily prompts encourage looking back on the day, expressing gratitude, and setting intentions for the future.
