French Phonics -Alphabet Activity Sheets-Science of Reading Phonemique-French
By La trousse de Madame
Alphabet pages are a NO PREP printable activity that align with the Science of Reading with vocabulary that contains the target sounds for K-2 French students. Each page helps students build phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, and endoding and decoding skills with sweet graphics and easy to read fonts. Build a strong foundation in French language with educational resources designed specifically with your students in mind!
What’s in my workbook?
-In each page, you will find a large bubble letter, upper and lower case, for students to colour or trace inside the lines.
-A section for identifying upper and lowercase letters by colouring the appropriate boxes.
-There is a section for tracing letters in upper and lowercase to build efficiency in printing.
-Students then have a quick little sentence using the target sound by circling the target letter.
-Next is a word practice.
-Finally, the student is asked to colour images that have the target sound.
Option 1:
Alphabet Worksheets have been organised by vowel sound first, followed by the consonant sound letters. Please note the ‘e accent aigu’ has been introduced early in each version.
Option 2:
Alphabet sounds have been organised as they are introduced by the Bien lire, Aimer lire formatting preferred by many French schools in Canada and abroad.
This is done to make it easier to sequence lessons based on the preferred letter introduction sequence.
Alphabet sounds:
-all vowel sounds a, e, i, o, u, y (as i), and e accent aigu
-consonant sounds including hard and soft g, and c
-y as a consonant
-images containing each of the letter sounds
-on sentence of decodable words with primarily simple sounds (complex sounds also present as are some heart words)
Activity Sheets include:
-printing practice
-tracing letters
-upper and lowercase letter recognition
-identifying letters
-decoding sentences
-word recognition
-identifying sound in an image
-find the images with the target sound
Who can use this resource:
-Any teacher using the strategies of the Science of Reading in the K-3 French Immersion classroom, Grade 4-6 Core French classroom.
-Make a set and send them home with students to build fluency in reading and confidence in reading strategies.
-Sentences are designed to build a number of common French sounds and get more challenging as they go on.
-Correction sheet is handy for use with a substitute as they can confidently assess students and command the lesson even when they are not assured of their French skills.
What grade level:
I personally use these texts with Grade 1 and Grade 2 students in French Immersion. I feel confident that students from K-3 will find these most useful and teachers can come back to the texts with any students who may be experiencing challenges in their French reading skills. Teachers Helping Teachers:
Vocabulary instruction is an important component of literacy instruction in preschool. It also provides children with an understanding of a variety of words which in turn can help with later reading comprehension. Vocabulary instruction is valuable as it builds the foundation for later reading skills, such as comprehension. A child needs to be taught vocabulary in many different ways.
Using Quizlet At The Younger Levels:
Below you are going to find a nice review quizlet made by icvc.early.learning that seeks to provide a great review resource for you.
Save the link and use it to do any or all of the following:
*Create Review flashcards to send home of the CVC words and the sentences tried out in class
*You can play games with them
*Share the link with parents- they can hit play in the car or at home to have the flashcards flip through and review items learned in class
*You can hit play to preview the terms and sentences or review them with your kiddos
*I LOVE doing repeat-after-me activities where the Quizlet reads it and then my kiddos repeat it.
*projecting onto your board, then sounding out the words together is key with the focus being on JUST the words and sentences without the busy pictures and activities around them.

Concept 38 IMSE OG 1st Grade Differentiated Work
By Emily Juneau
The Differentiated 1st Grade IMSE OG (Orton Gillingham) Companion for CONCEPT #38 is an essential resource designed to enhance the learning experience for young students, particularly in the domains of reading and spelling. This versatile tool is tailored to accommodate the diverse needs of both general education and special education classrooms, making it a must-have for any elementary educator.
I use this with my special education students as a replacement to the IMSE OG printables for red words, word dictation and sentence dictation so that my students are able to participate in their grade level content even if it is not at their work level.
How to Use Red Words: On the first page, students match letters of the red word first using magnetic letters, then using letter coins, and finally using scrabble letters. On the second page, students place the bumpy screen behind the paper. Then they trace the red word and write the red word in the letter boxes. On the third page, students use letter stamps and a red stamp pad to stamp the word as many times on the line as they can fit.
How to Use Word Dictation: First, students will match the dictated word letters using scrabble letters. Then, they will write or trace the word on the line below the scrabble letters. They will complete each word at the same pace as the classroom.
How to Use Sentence: First, teacher or student cut out each word box (teacher picks level colored or black depending on student needs). If using the colored word boxes, the student matches the word box color to the empty boxes
to complete the dictated sentence. If the student is using the black word boxes, they will listen to the dictated sentence and order the word boxes to complete the dictated sentence. After gluing the word boxes in correct sentence order, the student will re-write or trace the sentence on the lines below.
Skills Worked On:
-Red Word Identification
-Word Dictation
-Writing
How to use in your Classroom:
-Replacement for IMSE OG Red Word, Word Dictation, and Sentence Dictation
- Skill Practice in Intervention
