How it Works:

1. Students may start at ANY card with their pencil and paper on a clipboard. If this is too much to carry: Adjust the activity, by “hiding” the cards around the classroom writing surfaces such as tables and desks and have a pencil at each station.
2. Write the number of the starting card in the top left square.
3. Look at the picture, say what it is and think about what letters/word matches.
4. Walk around the room searching for the letter/word match of the picture located in the oval in the top right of another card.
5. When found, write the answer on the line in the first box.
6. Following the arrow on their paper to box 2, write the number of this card in the box on the top left.
7. Repeat until all boxes are full. Students should return to starting card when completed.

A bit of prep is required, however they can be used year after year. I have always found adapted books with interactive pieces something that all my kiddos enjoy.

Pumpkin Mini Unit

Book 1: Visiting a Pumpkin patch

Introduce vocabulary related to a pumpkin patch then read a story. The story needs some prep work prior, but can be used again and again & is adapted to support student learning.Students will read a story about visiting a pumpkin patch. This Functional Literacy Skills - Days of the Week Task Box and Visual Schedule Bundle is the perfect way to help students learn the days of the week as they begin the new school year! This set allows students to learn the days of the week, as well as their order. Students can then generalize this learning by creating and following a weekly schedule.  Task Box activities and Visual Schedule can be laminated and placed in task boxes or file folders, allowing them to be prepped once and reused with all of your students! 

Visual schedules are a tool used for students with exceptionalities, but particularly for those with autism, to help transition between activities and places, follow a routine, know what to expect in their day, and develop new skills.  The schedule allows a sequence of pictures and words to be arranged in order so that students can set and follow a daily schedule, as well as mark off completed tasks.  The schedule can also be used to break large tasks or events down into smaller steps.  Having a visual schedule can be a help to reduce challenging behaviour.

There are seven different task box levels included to support students as they learn to identify, match, and order the days of the week. Each matching level includes an errorless version so students of all abilities in your classroom can benefit!  The Weekly visual schedule includes images that are appropriate for all age groups.
