Do I need to use a specific Bible Story Book?

No! While I prefer to use The Beginner’s Bible Timeless Children’s Stories by Zondervan with these lessons, they are not required. You can easily use your own favorite Bible Story book, Scripture, or simply read the Bible Summary in the actual lesson that retells the Bible story.

Statement of Faith:

I believe that the Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God. I believe that Jesus is fully God and fully human, born of a virgin, lived a sinless life and paid the penalty for our sins through his death on the cross, resurrected on the third day having victory over death. I believe in the trinity, that God is existent in 3 separate persons - God the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit. I believe, as Calvary Chapel states, “that all people are by nature separated from God and responsible for their own sin, but that salvation, redemption, and forgiveness are freely offered to all by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. This resource gives you everything you need to teach Joshua 6 and to help preschoolers and kindergarten students to remember. The lesson focuses on the fall of the walls of Jericho as the Israelites obey God's command to march around the city and shout when Joshua gives the word. Students will learn about God's faithfulness to His promises.

Included:

• Story pages with color. I laminate these and keep them in a binder. I also print on both sides to save paper.
• Story pages in black and white, which are great for coloring pages
• A storyboard in color (great for booklets and to help students retell the story.
• A storyboard in black and white (also a great coloring page or booklet) I often send these home with students so parents can see exactly what the students learned and maybe even retell the story with them.
• Puzzles -a 9 piece and a 4 piece. Another great way to retell the story. Simply cut the puzzle pieces out and have students put them together. Once they see the completed image, you can ask about the pictures and how they fit into the story.
• A counting activity (with answer key) using the pictures from the story. I love to put many skills to use. Students can count the objects and people and tell why they are important.
• A word search activity (with answer key)
• Joshua 6:27 flash cards for the memory verse. KJV but editable for a different version if you prefer
• Joshua 6:27 memory verse poster. Again, it is the KJV but editable if you prefer a different version.

1. How to prep:

I printed and laminated the story pages the evening before. I also printed the coloring page and the memory verse activity sheets the evening before.

2. I read the story pages. Students can color while I read to help them focus.

3. I showed the story cards (just smaller versions of the slides that students take home) to students and asked them to repeat as much of the story back to me as they can.

4. Students can put the puzzle together and retell again if there is time.

5. Students can also work on the word search or counting activity, depending on the age.

Why should I choose this resource?

1. The story comes from Scripture but is summarized for young learners. The Word of God is not compromised in the process.

2. There are a variety of coloring pages for students to do during the lesson to help them listen to the story but still busy with a non-linguistic activity so their brains do not have competition between the 2 activities.

3. There are plenty of activities to keep them engaged.

4. Easy to understand instructions for printing

5. Colorful and engaging pictures to help tell the story for pre-readers or early readers.

6. A chance to work with the story while practicing coloring, counting, and reading

No! While I prefer to use The Beginner’s Bible Timeless Children’s Stories by Zondervan with these lessons, they are not required. You can easily use your own favorite Bible Story book, Scripture, or simply read the Bible Summary in the actual lesson that retells the Bible story.

Statement of Faith:

I believe that the Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God. I believe that Jesus is fully God and fully human, born of a virgin, lived a sinless life and paid the penalty for our sins through his death on the cross, resurrected on the third day having victory over death. I believe in the trinity, that God is existent in 3 separate persons - God the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit. I believe, as Calvary Chapel states, “that all people are by nature separated from God and responsible for their own sin, but that salvation, redemption, and forgiveness are freely offered to all by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1. How to prep:

I printed and laminated the story pages the evening before. I also printed the coloring page and the memory verse activity sheets the evening before.

2. I read the story pages. Students can color while I read to help them focus.

3. I showed the story cards (just smaller versions of the slides that students take home) to students and asked them to repeat as much of the story back to me as they can.

4. Students can put the puzzle together and retell again if there is time.

5. Students can also work on the word search or counting activity, depending on the age.

6. Sequencing activity - cut out the bottom half of the page and have the students cut out the picture boxes. Students can put the correct picture with the correct caption.

1. The story comes from Scripture but is summarized for young learners. The Word of God is not compromised in the process.

2. There are a variety of coloring pages for students to do during the lesson to help them listen to the story but still busy with a non-linguistic activity so their brains do not have competition between the 2 activities.

•Praise Party Hat

Print and Go hat design. Have children wear the hat during a "Praise Party”. Can also be used as n attention grabber to the lesson (you wear it), or a teaching visual during the lesson (have students put the hats on at the end of the story.)

•Welcome Home: Design a House Children color and decorate/design a home. The door pops open to say “Welcome Home” to remember how our Father God always welcomes us to Him (just the father in the parable).

•Original Song Use this simple and easy little song to the tune of “Farmer in the Dell to help children remember the parable.

•Playlist A list and links to great Contemporary Christian, Worship Songs and Hymns that have the same message and theme as the parable. You could lead the kids in worship, sing along or simply have them playing while you learn and play.
