U.D.L. & Conferencing-Kid's Mental Health. Fall/Autumn.

By Art Shack by JB

Need an awesome UDL / Conferencing Activity? I have just the thing for you! These creative U.D.L. & Conferencing slides were designed to be printed and displayed as examples while you teach. Use this Google Slide file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on a large screen. For this activity I reviewed what U.D.L. is and how it is used in my Art Room-and how it could be used differently in classrooms. I also reviewed how I conference with students: as a class, in a small group, and in a one-on-one situation. I used my pinch pot clay sculpture unit to showcase U.D.L. & Conferencing in my Art Room. I had students use the U.D.L. Checklist Worksheet to focus on Engagement, Representation, and Expression. I hope you and your kiddos love this! Enjoy.

Anticipation Guides are excellent tools that can be used before reading to activate students' prior knowledge and build curiosity about a new topic and/or to share ideas about key concepts. Students respond to several statements that challenge or support their preconceived ideas about key concepts as well as their peers’ ideas. The Anticipation Guides can help structure meaningful conversations that reviews what students already know and engages them in critical thinking about the topic they will be exploring. The statements in the Anticipation Guides can spark some great discussions among students!! This Anticipation Guide and Self-Assessment focuses on Toxic Behaviors.

You can use an Anticipation Guide:

✅ Before/after introducing new material to tap into prior knowledge.

✅ Before/after watching a film clip to gauge a reaction.

✅ Before/after reading a short text to begin a discussion.

✅ Before/After discussing a topic.

ANTICIPATION GUIDES

There is ONE Anticipation Guide that comes in two different variations:

▶️ Variation #1:

Part 1: The first section of the Anticipation Guide features a list of statements alongside columns labeled "AGREE" and "DISAGREE." Students are tasked with reading each statement and marking either "AGREE" or "DISAGREE" based on their perspective.

Part 2: The second section of the Anticipation Guide prompts students to choose a statement from the list above and delve into its significance to them. They may reflect on how the statement connects to their own lives, share a personal experience related to it, or elaborate on their thoughts concerning its importance in greater detail.

▶️ Variation #2: This Anticipation Guide worksheet format includes a list of statements accompanied by columns for "AGREE," "DISAGREE," and "COMMENTS." Students are instructed to read each statement and mark either "AGREE" or "DISAGREE." They are then encouraged to elaborate on their thoughts or ideas regarding each statement in the designated "COMMENTS" column.

SELF-ASSESSMENT

There is ONE Toxic Behavior Self-Assessment included in this resource. Students will assess their likelihood of engaging in toxic behaviors and interactions with others by scoring the statements using the following scale: 2 for “Regularly,” 1 for “Occasionally,” and 0 for “Never.”

The purpose of taking a toxic behavior self-assessment is to gain self-awareness and insight into their tendencies and behaviors that may be considered toxic. It allows them to reflect on their actions, thoughts, and responses in various situations. The assessment can help them identify patterns of behavior that could potentially harm relationships, hinder personal growth, or negatively impact well-being.

Both the Toxic Behaviors Anticipation Guide and Self-Assessment can:

✅ help students understand their own behavior and thought processes better.

✅ help students recognize specific areas where they may need to make positive changes.

✅ help students establish goals for personal development and fostering healthier interactions.

✅ help students address begative behaviors and toxic tendencies.

✅ help students learn strategies to avoid or minimize engagement in toxic behaviors, both personally and in interactions with others.

These assessment statements can also serve as a means to explore students' competencies and viewpoints regarding the topic!
