*”Can I Play?” - Sometimes children are excluded because they don’t have the social skills to ask to play. This section of the packet teaches children three important rules of asking to play.

*Five social scenarios that will help children learn the 3 rules of asking to play. The first three scenarios are for you to read to the children. These are intended to inspire class discussions. The last two include questions so that the children can decide what the characters should do next.

*”Feelings Shield”- A visual cue for children to use for defending themselves against other people’s hurtful words or actions. Included are shields with written affirmations as well as a blank shield so that children can draw their own positive pictures.

*Please keep in mind that bullying is NEVER ok. Teaching children how to handle hurt feelings does not mean that you tolerate bullying. If you feel that there is bullying behavior in your school, it is your responsibility as a teacher to end it.

For example, on one page a girl is shown with an ice cream cone that has fallen to the ground. The text on that page says, "Ella dropped her ice cream cone on the sidewalk. How does Ella feel?"

Teachers or parents can use the mini-stories on each page to help children identify and talk about their own emotions as well as the emotions of others. Children are encouraged to look at facial features and body language to help to identify the feelings of other people.

If you are looking for a way to organize your classroom and support your students with visual schedules, then this resource is for you! This Visual Schedule and Classroom Organization Set will help you organize your task boxes, job board, and classroom schedule. You can also have students use the individual board visual schedule to set their own personal visual schedules!

Visual schedules are a tool used for students with exceptionalities, but particularly for those with autism, to help transition between activities and places, follow a routine, know what to expect in their day, and develop new skills.  The schedule allows a sequence of pictures and words to be arranged in order so that students can set and follow a daily schedule, as well as mark off completed tasks.  The schedule can also be used to break large tasks or events down into smaller steps.  Having a visual schedule can be a help to reduce challenging behaviour.

Connecting your whole class schedule, with board sized individual schedules, and personal visual schedules is easy with the resources you will find in this bundle. This set of 20 adapted books with a focus on animals in different habitats: Polar, Ocean, Rainforest, Desert and Wetlands. Each habitat has 4 books providing tiered support for your students. This is a total of 20 books, and the option to use with a variety of students. I have also included a Bonus print and go packet for follow up activities after you have read the books with your students.

Each habitat has 4 books (for a total of 20 books) representing different levels:

Level 1 - This book is not adaptive, it is a simple read aloud featuring details about the animals in each habitat.

Level 2 - This book contains 8 icons (ocean has 10) colorful pages (laminate and reuse again and again) & a visual prompting to support comprehension.

Level 3 - This book contains color icons, remainder of book is in black and white with visual supports for animal identification. Each page of the book has a sentence, and a place to put the icon after reading the sentence.

Level 4 - This book contains color icons, remainder of book is in black and white without visual supports. Each page of the book has a sentence, and a place to put the icon after reading the sentence.

What animals are included?

Ocean Habitat:

Animals - humpback whale, dolphin, clownfish, starfish, stingray, puffer fish, octopus, shark, turtle & jellyfish.

Desert Habitat:

Animals - coral snake, armadillo, Gila monster, tarantula, scorpion, coyote, kangaroo rat, jack-rabbit

Polar Habitat:

Animals - orca, arctic hare, seal, beluga whale, walrus, arctic fox, polar bear and narwhal
