There are times when children will often engage in behaviours such as tantrums, whining and whingeing, saying “No” and throwing items that are disruptive. It’s important to think about the purpose of this behaviour and whether the behaviour is accidently being rewarded or reinforced by what you do post behaviour. In the interim however, until you are able to determine the function of the behaviour the following strategies may provide some guidelines for you to implement.

This resource can be used by parents, teacher, carers to explore various preventative and response strategies to manage disruptive behaviour from young children. These strategies may aid in the development of a positive Behavioural Support Plan or simply to create a more engaging and proactive response to these behavioural concerns.

If you are looking for a fun and interactive way for your students to not only discuss perseverance and what facing challenges looks like, but also practice the skill in a fun and engaging way, then this might be a classroom activity for you! Perseverance is one of those skills that is truly mastered when they are able to practice is "on the spot" and build skills in the moment. This activity provides a safe and comfortable way to do just that, while creating both fun scenarios and more realistic scenarios that they may face in their day to day lives. A full MONTH of communication activities ready to go! Do your students love interactive and hands-on learning experiences that are also engaging and fun? This digital download provides FOUR ready to use lessons that focus on communication and working respectfully with others, while also working through challenges, with a hint of perseverance all wrapped into four consecutive lessons! The lessons provided can be used as solo activities or for consecutive weeks, as they build off of one another nicely and provide a continuation of both review of the previous activity while also creating more of a challenge with each "level up" to continue skill building. My students LOVED each of these activities and I was able to adjust and use my creativity to use this with multiple grade levels! We had a blast and were able to practice our communication skills in fun and interactive ways. Instructions included on each slide for all four activities. Enjoy!!

This interactive SEL Community Building + Cooperation activity is based on the famous question, "If you were stranded on a desert island..." however, it comes with a small twist! Students will answer get to know you questions that will then turn into their list of items that they can potentially bring on board on their island adventure. The fun part is that they do not know that their answers to the questions are building their lists for the island. Once questions are answered and lists are created, they are put into teams to decide which items must come and which will stay behind! If time allows, the activity also comes with plot twist scenarios that add a little more fun to the mix! This digital download includes everything you need and is ready for your next fun lesson. Bring some paper along for students to utilize and you're all set.

This "Think Before You Speak" activity puts a focus on taking time to reflect and think before speaking to others. In this interactive activity, students are put into teams, where they are helping one another guess a specific word while also avoiding the guess of another word. Students must focus and carefully select the words in which they are using to be helpful - a social skill that we all utilize daily (even if we do not realize it!) This activity is a great resource to bring this skill to life and take time to reflect and connect - while having a little fun in doing so!
