French verbs like OUVRIR - Lesson and exercises in 3 tenses
By Love Learning Languages - French Resources
French verbs like OUVRIR - Lesson and exercises in 3 tenses
This is a comprehensive French lesson which includes 3 worksheets in 3 tenses. Students learn how to use the irregular -IR verbs ouvrir, offrir, souffrir, découvrir, and couvrir in the present, passé composé, and imperative tenses. This ready-to-go lesson would be perfect to use as a substitute lesson plan.
This resource is included in my French Verbs Like Ouvrir Bundle.
Before beginning this lesson, students should be familiar with using the passé composé with avoir as helping verb, and with using the imperative with -ER verbs since these irregular verbs follow the same pattern.
Step 1: Download, print, and distribute the 12 page lesson guide. There's plenty of space for students to take notes and write examples as you teach or play my video lesson.
Step 2: Show my video lesson on irregular French verbs like ouvrir, offrir, souffrir, couvrir, and découvrir. Since you will likely want to teach these verbs using your own methods, this video lesson is a bonus that is also available on YouTube. You may use it as supplementary work to help struggling students outside of the classroom, or on a day when you need a ready-to-go substitute assignment.
Step 3: Quiz / homework / worksheet: Present tense - Includes ten sentences that are not the same as in steps 4 & 5.
Step 4: Quiz / homework / worksheet: Passé composé - Includes ten sentences that are not the same as in steps 3 & 5.
Step 5: Quiz / homework / worksheet: Imperative tense - Includes ten sentences that are not the same as in steps 3 & 4.

French Imperative Lesson - With and Without Pronouns
By Love Learning Languages - French Resources
French Imperative Lesson - With and Without Pronouns - Distance Learning
This is a lesson on how to make affirmative and negative commands in French both with and without pronouns. Students will learn that when they want to use double pronouns with the imperative, a few things change. This lesson guide is part of my comprehensive lesson on the imperative which includes the following resources that are available individually or as a money saving bundle. You may choose to teach this lesson yourself or use my free 41 minute video lesson if you have to be absent, want to use it for distance learning, or if you have a sub who doesn't speak French. I have created all of the following resources to make a comprehensive lesson plan that will help students practice and master the French imperative.
Teacher and Student Instructions:
STEP 1 ➯ Download the 9 page lesson and follow it closely while teaching how to use pronouns with the imperative. The lesson includes all of the essential rules beginning with the formation of the imperative and finishing with affirmative and negative commands with pronouns and double pronouns. To keep your students on their toes as you teach, move ahead to STEP 2 before distributing a copy of the lesson for them to add to their French folder.
STEP 2 ➯ Download the 9 page cours and distribute a copy to your students. They can use it to follow along and take notes while listening to you teach the lesson. There are spaces for them to fill in missing information that they will learn as you explain everything. Taking their own notes will help them retain the new information.
The following resources supplement this lesson and are part of the BUNDLE:
STEP 3 ➯ Recorded listening comprehension exercise - TU. Distribute the worksheet and students should be ready to write as they are led through an audio exercise. Students will hear a sentence being read beginning with _Tu veux...._ Listen carefully for the verb being used, and restate the sentence using the imperative. In this exercise, use the TU form every time, and no pronouns are used. Answer key included.
STEP 4 ➯ Recorded listening comprehension exercise - VOUS. Distribute the worksheet and students should be ready to write as they are led through an audio exercise. Students will hear a sentence being read beginning with _Vous voulez...._ Listen carefully for the verb being used, and restate the sentence using the imperative. In this exercise, use the VOUS form every time, and no pronouns are used. Answer key included.
STEP 5 ➯ Recorded listening comprehension exercise - NOUS. Distribute the worksheet and students should be ready to write as they are led through an audio exercise. Students will hear a sentence being read beginning with _Nous voulons...._ Listen carefully for the verb being used, and restate the sentence using the imperative. In this exercise, use the NOUS form every time, and no pronouns are used. Answer key included.
STEP 6 ➯ Written translation exercise - English to French - This exercise is meant to be simple and really focuses on what was taught in the lesson. A 5 minute audio file is included in which I walk students through the exercise and provide explanations just as you would in a classroom setting. This can be especially helpful if students are distance learning and need further help with the written work. You may wish to listen to my explanations and use some of my ideas when explaining the work yourself.
STEP 7 ➯ Written translation exercise - English to French - This exercise if for advanced learners or for those working at a higher level. This exercise will provide a challenge! It includes the imperative with pronouns and double pronouns with and without negation as well as other advanced level grammatical structures. A 9 minute audio file is included in which I walk students through the exercise and provide explanations just as you would in a classroom setting. This can be especially helpful if students are distance learning and need further help with the written work. You may wish to listen to my explanations and use some of my ideas when explaining the work yourself.
STEP 8 ➯ Written exercise - Reformulate French sentences and transform them into imperative commands. A 14 minute audio file is included in which I walk students through the exercise and provide explanations just as you would in a classroom setting. This can be especially helpful if students are distance learning and need further help with the written work. You may wish to listen to my explanations and use some of my ideas when explaining the work yourself.
STEP 9 ➯ Written exercise - Give commands using double pronouns. An 11 minute audio file is included in which I walk students through the exercise and provide explanations just as you would in a classroom setting. This can be especially helpful if students are distance learning and need further help with the written work. You may wish to listen to my explanations and use some of my ideas when explaining the work yourself.
STEP 10 ➯ 50 practice cards. This set of cards will help students truly master the French imperative with and without pronouns and negation. All cards are numbered, and there's a numbered answer key. I'm including 3 PDF versions to fit your teaching needs: 1 per page with answers shown on every other slide, 1 per page with no answers (refer to numbered key), 4 per page with no answers to print and cut out.

French Pronouns Advanced Level Activity + Listening Comprehension
By Love Learning Languages - French Resources
Practice French using pronouns in context - Advanced level activity
This is a three part French lesson for upper - intermediate to advanced level students that will assess three different skills: listening, reading, and choosing grammatically correct pronouns in a given context. It is a good idea to wait and have students check their answers once all three steps of this activity have been completed. Once the whole activity has been completed, they may want to go back and change some of their answers before checking them against the answer key. This activity is more challenging than a typical series of sentences pulled out of context. Students will really need to follow the story in order to use the correct pronouns.
This text is written in many different tenses. The pronouns used in this text are as follows:
Included:
Step 1: Listening comprehension
1. Before having students listen to the reading, be sure to have them listen to the audio recording of the comprehension questions to know what to be listening for in the reading. I am including a written copy of the comprehension questions in case your students feel stuck and really can’t understand.
2. Have students listen to the reading once without trying to answer the questions.
3. Pause and replay the parts of the recording they didn’t understand, and remember that many pronouns are being used. They will need to pay very close attention to context. Tell them they'll have an opportunity to change their answers if they want to in the next step.
4. Have them listen to recording of the comprehension questions again, one question at a time. They should try to answer as many of them as they can, and don’t hesitate to go back to the reading to listen again for details.
Step 2: Reading comprehension
1. Students read the text all the way through, then go back and have a look at their answers to the comprehension questions. They can listen to them again if needed.
Step 3: Pronouns exercise
1. Complete the multiple choice exercise.
2. Once they’ve finished the multiple choice activity you can give them a final challenge and have them complete the fill in the blank exercise.
3. Now it’s time for students to check all of their answers using the answer keys provided.

French ER Verbs Lesson in 2 Tenses With and Without Negation
By Love Learning Languages - French Resources
Regular ER Verbs in the Present Tense and Passé Composé + 5 Ways to Use Negation + Lesson Plan
Regular verbs ending in ER represent the largest group of verbs in French. This comprehensive lesson focuses on 15 of them, and students will learn how to use them both in the present tense and in the passé composé. They will learn how to use simple negation as well as how to say never, nothing, anymore, and not yet. This is a very comprehensive lesson in which I give lots of examples, and the way I teach it will make them feel as if we're sitting together in a 1:1 session! This lesson is perfect for distance learning.
STUDENT INSTRUCTIONS & LESSON PLAN (Steps 1 - 4 included in this resource):
➯ STEP 1 - «COURS»: Download your cours before watching the video and be ready to take notes. This is an 8 page skeleton outline of the lesson that you can print and use to follow along as the lesson is taught. There is space for you to write examples. This is an important part of the learning process as you will retain more if you actively participate rather than simply listening.
➯ STEP 2 - Lesson guide: I'm including a study guide which is a neat 6 page copy of the lesson.
➯ STEP 3 - Jennifer's live lesson notes: As I teach this lesson, you will see that I write examples, notes, tips, and other helpful grammar information directly on the screen. This is a 9 page copy of my personal notes written while recording.
➯ STEP 4 - Video tutorial on YouTube: 45 minute lesson in which I teach everything outlined on the 8 page cours.
Supplementary resources available on TeachShare:
➯ STEP 5 - Written exercise: 25 sentences to write either in the present tense or passé composé. All of them include one of the types of negation you will learn during the lesson. An answer key is included.
Modèle: Présent - Je - ne pas - souvent - parler - téléphone.
en français: Je ne parle pas souvent au téléphone.
en anglais: I don’t often speak on the phone.
➯ STEP 6 - Audio: 15 sentences using -ER verbs are included in this dictation exercise that will help you with listening comprehension and written production. All of the verbs from the lesson are used either in the present tense or passé composé, and half of the sentences use negation. I will read each sentence twice, giving you time to write what I say. An answer key is included.
➯ STEP 7 - Practice cards: Use your set of 100 practice cards to drill everything you learn during this lesson. Every verb from the lesson is included and repeated in different ways in this very useful set of cards. I'm including three versions:

French Conversation Lesson La Randonnée Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking
By Love Learning Languages - French Resources
Looking for a way to show your students how real daily French conversations flow? This comprehensive French lesson will have your students reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The theme of this lesson is la randonnée. They'll get lots of exposure to real spoken French, while working on the four skills we strive to include in every lesson.
Included:
⭐ Video in French and English
⭐ Audio in French only
⭐ Fill in the blank exercise
⭐ Transcript in French
⭐ Role play situation in English
⭐ Useful sentences + expressions
La Randonnée - Hiking in the mountains
In the video, students will listen and read along as a typical French dialogue unfolds during une randonnée in France.
As students listen to the conversation, listening comprehension will improve, and they will learn lots of new vocabulary words and expressions. This is really the way French people interact, though it may never have shown up in the textbook!
The video lasts approximately two minutes, and it is easy to pause so that everyone has a chance to study the text.
The speech is not too fast in this video, and all of the words are written on the screen in French and with English translations.
The grammar in this conversation is quite varied. However, French learners at any level can learn a lot and benefit from these conversations through context. Your students will find the English translations to be most helpful, and they will see how it is nearly impossible to give direct translations from French to English.
LESSON PLAN (as you explain it to students):
Step 1: Watch the video and read along as you listen to the conversation. When you don't understand a word, just look down at the English translation. Be sure to take notes! It's ok if you don't understand all of the grammar. Just try to pay close attention to how the sentences are put together and how we do it differently in English.
Step 2: Listen to the audio recording without looking at the words and translations on the video. Do you remember what the words mean? You can use this recording to practice and fine tune your listening skills
Step 3: Print out the fill in the blank exercise, and write in the missing words as you listen to the recording. An answer key is provided. Once you have done this a few times, I challenge you to get out a blank sheet of paper and try writing it all! Just have that pause button ready!
Step 4: Read over the role play situation with a partner. Study the page with helpful French sentences and expressions, and invent your own dialogue. You can use some of what you learned in the video in your conversation!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "My students loved using this for being able to help them have conversations in class. Great resource!"

French Conversation - La Pâtisserie - Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking
By Love Learning Languages - French Resources
Looking for a way to show your students how real daily French conversations flow? This comprehensive French lesson will have your students reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The theme of this lesson is à la pâtisserie. They'll get lots of exposure to real spoken French, while working on the four skills we strive to include in every lesson.
Included:
⭐ Video in French and English
⭐ Audio in French only
⭐ Fill in the blank exercise
⭐ Transcript in French
⭐ Role play situation in English
⭐ Useful sentences + expressions
À la pâtisserie - At the pastry shop
In the video, students will listen and read along as a typical French dialogue unfolds à la pâtisserie in France.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "This was fantastic, merci! More like this please!!!!"

French Conjunctions With Future Tenses Lesson
By Love Learning Languages - French Resources
French conjunctions with future tenses lesson plan
This is an upper-intermediate comprehensive French grammar lesson on how to use seven different conjunctions and conjunctive phrases in the correct tense.
This lesson focuses on the following conjunctions:
The following verb tenses are used:
This resource is part of my Ça y est, je parle français! French 3 and 4 curriculum.
Included:
Step 1: Teach the grammar lesson (or show my video lesson) about these conjunctions and conjunctive phrases. Even if your students have never even heard of some of them, by the end of this lesson they'll have a much better understanding. Before teaching the lesson, be sure to download, print, and distribute lesson guides where you'll find all of the rules and examples you'll need. I've even added a few helpful hints! If you find that some students struggle with this concept, you may want to assign the video lesson for homework (like a tutoring lesson).
Step 2: Have students work individually, in small groups, or as a whole class using your set of practice cards. An answer key is included so that students can easily check their own work. I'm including paper free versions that you can project or have kids open up on their devices as well as a version with 4 cards per page that you can print and cut out in case you want them off of their screens! You'll be able to use this resource year after year to have your students truly practice and master their new French grammar skill.
Step 3: Use the 36 sentence worksheet as a quiz, test, in class worksheet or take home assignment. This quiz is meant to be quite challenging! Students may need to look up some words, but the most important thing will be to see if they've understood the concept of when to use which tense following these conjunctions and conjunctive phrases.

French verb RENVERSER: 10 intermediate - advanced ways to use this verb
In this intermediate French lesson, your students will learn ten different ways to use the same verb! This complete lesson includes a 22 minute video, printable lesson guide, and scrambled sentences activities. Like many French verbs, renverser can have lots of different meanings. This is a very common verb, so you can look forward to your students truly expanding their knowledge so that they will feel more confident when speaking French!
For each of the ten ways I teach in the video to use the verb renverser, I'll also show ways to use other verbs to say practically the same thing.
To help your students practice and master their new skill, I'm including a lesson guide with all of the examples from the lesson and three worksheets that will help drill in the new information and improve understanding of French sentence structure. These worksheets will help as students carefully place the words in the correct order.
Step 1: Print out and distribute the 3 page lesson guide. Have it handy for taking notes during the video lesson.
Step 2: Watch the video lesson, and carefully examine all of the different ways to use the verb RENVERSER. I'll also show clever ways to say the same thing (or almost the same thing) using verbs that are synonyms. Your students will learn 20 new ways to express themselves in French!
Step 3: Practice and master this new French skills by putting scrambled sentences back in the correct order. You get three worksheets. Two of them use sentences that come directly from the lesson, and the third one has completely new sentences using the verb RENVERSER.
