Poinsettia Art Projects | Christmas Art Projects

By Down in the Art Room

These holiday projects featuring poinsettias are ideal for the holiday season but can be used any time of the year while studying indigenous plants, Mexico, or traditions. Use these mixed media projects to create a fantastic holiday display without doing a Christmas project.

These hands-on, cross-curricular projects are perfect for this time of year when students are excited and sometimes difficult to manage in the classroom. The projects are highly engaging and develop students' fine motor skills - both things that cut down on unwanted behaviors.

Four different projects for grades 2-5 are included. Set up stations and let your students choose a project or rotate through and complete them all.

This resource is in a PDF file and contains 18 pages. It includes:

  • Cross-curricular lesson with detailed instructions and photos for 4 projects
  • Suggestions for project variations including a collaborative project
  • Poinsettia drawing guide
  • Cross-curricular and literacy connections for use with all projects
  • Hand-drawn original poinsettia template
  • National Core Arts Standards and TEKS (Texas) for 2nd-5th grades
  • Instructions for an easy way to create painted paper (with little to no clean up)
  • Poinsettia fact sheet with real photos

These projects are mixed media and use different materials and techniques to create artwork. These types of projects help develop your students' fine motor skills, sequencing, and eye-hand coordination.
