3.Session 3: Our Remote Control - Pause/Think/Act Through interactive activities, participants learn the power of pausing before reacting impulsively. They explore the metaphor of a remote control for self-control and practice the essential skills of pausing, thinking, and acting mindfully.

Then they will move on to continue to work in collaborative groups choosing which person or event from the 20th Century they wish to study, using the 20th Century Timeline Event Cards. Students will participate in research and a class presentation, then post their events on the wall to create a timeline of events.

After reading each figurative language example on the board, move to the side of the room labeled “Metaphor,” “Simile,” “Hyperbole,” or “Personification.” Be prepared to defend your choices. You may disagree with your classmates’ opinions but do so respectfully. (I typically go over each example with students and discuss the impact of the words or phrases to uncover the deeper meaning. Ask questions such as, "what is being compared?" or "what can the reader visualize?")

REFLECTION:

Job & Life Skills are an important part of a students Transition plan, CBI or Work program. Students need to know what tools are used in a Grocery Store or Supermarket. Learning the tools found in a grocery store improve the life and work skills for all students. There are 3 levels in this bundle. The BEGINNING level introduces pictures of Grocery Store Tools at Work by having students match the same picture. The INTERMEDIATE level requires the student to read the Grocery Store Tool at Work and choose the corresponding picture. The ADVANCED level requires the students to read a scenario and use critical thinking skills to determine the best tool to use in the scenario. These skills will assist your students in becoming more independent in their daily / work life. Your students will love this lesson, from 6th grade to 12th grade. The PowerPoint is included in the Zip File.

In 1980, China enforced the One-Child Policy Act to due to overpopulation issues as a result of Mao Zedong's policies, as he competed with Russia for power. Once he dies in 1979, China had to look at the population issues as there was a shortage of housing and resources— and they were continuing to multiply. Something had to be done, so the government enforce Martial Law and only allowed families to have one child.

However, now the One-Child Policy has created a downward shift in population, and as the older generation dies, the population is declining at significant rates. In 2016, to encourage population growth, China's government put in to play the Two-Child Policy pleading with its citizens, "Please have a second child". When that wasn't working, in 2021, they pass a Three-Child Policy.

This lesson examines and compares China's Child Policy Acts throughout the years and their effectiveness, also giving students the opportunity to provide their opinion of various scenarios.

OBJECTIVES:

• Understand the guidelines of the One-Child Policy Act, Two-Child Policy
  Act, and Three-Child Policy Act
• Examine the cause and effect of China's child policy acts
• Determine the effectiveness of each of China's child policy acts
• Understand Population Density

Are you math teacher and have been thrown into teaching a computer science course? Now you have NO IDEA where to start! Have you taught computer science, but want to try something else? Math and computer science are related, but are not the same!

I have your back. I've been teaching math and computer science, including APCSP, APCSA, and Data Structures for almost two decades. I also teach an introduction course. This is part of the course I made up for my intro students. I have a BS in computer science and know what students need to know.

The second semester of lessons are an extension and not taught in most schools. I researched and created them with a focus on students having fun while using higher level coding techniques. They are geared toward using Java to create forms and games. These sections are by far my students' favorites because they get to use images, GUI components, and animation.

These lessons are meant to be done over a few days; the idea is to get students doing cool stuff as fast as possible. With Java, that is NOT an easy task.
