Professional Development- Engaging Stations
Are you in need of an engaging professional development for your teachers? We expect our teachers to be engaging with their students but we rarely engage our teachers with their learning. Additionally, as teachers, we got away from using hands-on resources in the classroom when COVID-19 happened. Hands-on resources give students a tangible, experiential way for learners to engage with concepts, making abstract ideas more concrete and understandable. By physically manipulating objects or engaging in interactive activities, students can grasp complex concepts more easily and retain information better. Now it is time to refresh our memory on the hands-on resources we can use in the classroom or that we have buried somewhere.
This Canva Presentation is a copy that you can edit and is centered around giving teachers engaging ideas to use for centers or rotations. The professional development is editable and can be altered to fit your teachers’ needs.
Additionally, this presentation can also be downloaded as a PowerPoint or Google Slide. You will go to the share button in Canva and then the download button. After the download button, press the down arrow where the file type is and select the file you want to download it as.
This PD is important because it gives teachers the following to think about:
Varied Teaching Strategies: It introduces teachers to diverse teaching methodologies. Engaging stations often incorporate different activities, catering to various learning styles and preferences. This equips educators with a range of strategies to better engage and reach different types of learners in their classrooms.
Active Learning Techniques: Stations promote active learning, encouraging students to interact, explore, and apply knowledge actively. Educators trained in these techniques can create dynamic, interactive learning environments that stimulate student involvement and participation.
Differentiated Instruction: Stations can be tailored to accommodate different proficiency levels or learning paces within a classroom. Through professional development, teachers learn how to design and implement stations that cater to individual student needs, allowing for more personalized instruction.
Increased Student Engagement: Engaging stations often lead to higher student interest and participation. By providing professional development in this area, teachers can learn strategies to create captivating, interactive lessons that capture students' attention and foster a love for learning.
Encourages Collaboration: Stations often involve group work or collaboration among students. Training teachers in station-based learning encourages them to design activities that promote teamwork, communication, and cooperation among their students.

By The M-Intercept
8th grade math teachers - looking for a fun and engating way to review concepts at the End of the Year? Need a great test prep tool to review before state assessments, the SBAC, or Common Core tests, or just play at the end of the year in 7th grade math?
Students will love this Jeopardy-like game to review Common Core standards. Categories include FUNCTIONS, NUMBER SYSTEMS, EXPRESSIONS & EQUATIONS, GEOMETRY, PROBABILITY & STATISTICS, AND VOCABULARY. Points range from 100 - 500, which reflect the increase in difficulty from 100-point basic review questions to 500-point questions that require students to apply their knowledge.
**FULLY EDITABLE** While the game is complete, it is also editable in PowerPoint, making it easy to add questions or change the level of difficulty based on your students' needs.
⭐FUNCTIONS: involve determining whether or not a graph or equation is a function, reading function, tables, graphs, and equations, and comparing functions.
⭐NUMEBR SYSTEMS: in this category students determine whether or not a number is rational, find approximate values for irrational numbers, convert a repeating decimal to a fraction, and compare values of both rational and irrational numbers.
⭐EXPRESSIONS & EQUATIONS: these problems have students use integer exponent properties, find the equation of a line, compare two values in scientific notation, and solve a system of equations with two equations (one solution).
⭐GEOMETRY: questions involve finding missing angle measurements, finding the volume of a cylinder, and answering questions about transformations.
⭐PROBABILITY & STATISTICS: students must read and understand scatter plots and double frequency tables. They must find the equation of a line of best fit, or a trend line.
⭐VOCABULARY : questions ask about transformation, angle pairs, types of decimals, rational and irrational numbers, and formulas for finding volume.

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.NF.A.1
Explain why a fraction a/b is equivalent to a fraction (n × a)/(n × b) by using visual fraction models, with attention to how the number and size of the parts differ even though the two fractions themselves are the same size. Use this principle to recognize and generate equivalent fractions.

Having trouble visualizing how to "break down" math concepts and how to structure your teaching? New to this grade level or unfamiliar with "how" to teach it? Tired of passing out worksheets? If you're wanting to try something else to see if your students become more engaged and confident in math... Look no further. No book? No problem. Printer broken? No problem. Multi-levelled or split classrooms? No problem.
Imagine math classes that require zero prep, zero paper, zero planning, and slides which not only prompt your students to engage, discuss, solve and prove their understanding, but prompt you to teach concepts at a slow, realistic pace? Imagine not having to write down examples on your board and having more time to assess your students in real time. This document does just that.
This is one my paperless teaching products; where my 74-page Slide Deck will take your hand and guide you to teach following a workshop model. I provide ample explanations, examples, step-by-step instruction, assessment and answer keys. Apart from the assessment materials at the end of this document, it requires virtually no printing. It just requires you (or anyone!) to be there to follow the Slide Deck.
This was created (and used!) for students in grades 5-7 and works great for older students on IEPs, students en adaptation scolaire, as revision for older grades, or for online learning. Partner work and independent work are imbedded in the slides. Students receive many guided explanations so they can work independently.
Let me teach you - and your students - how integers work.
This document covers the following concepts:
In addition to the 56-page slide deck, there are 18 pages of printable assessments (9 activities and 9 answer keys) which can be used as check-ins, formal or informal assessment, revision, printables for a substitute or just for independent work. There are answer keys for all printable assessments as well as answer keys imbedded throughout the Slide Deck for your students to reference throughout their learning.
