In Task 1 students will read an informational text about Anne Frank and then find their way through a maze by answering true or false comprehension questions. If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word.

In Task 2 students will complete a crossword puzzle by answering ten questions. Answering these questions correctly will reveal some hidden letters which need to be unscrambled to reveal the second word.

In Task 3 students will sort 27 timeline task cards about the life of Anne Frank, putting them in order from the earliest date to the most recent. When they have finished their third word will be revealed.

In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word.

In this lesson, students learn more about both the classic Seven Wonders of the World and the “new” Seven Wonders project as they research the history, design and engineering of the wonders. The lesson starts with a whole class Microsoft PowerPoint presentation (editable) to view the Wonders and start discussion. Next, students choose one of the classic and one of the “new” Wonders to research further and create a presentation with that information (using Microsoft PowerPoint or Google Slides). Optionally, these may be presented to the class. In the next part of the assignment, they design an “Eighth Wonder” of their own (to scale) based on what they learned, using Sketchup (a free CAD program that can be downloaded at: https://www.sketchup.com/ or used as an online tool). After completing the drawing, students build a model of their Wonder to scale using chipboard, cardboard or other materials. The building activity can be done as a team/small group activity if you prefer. Finally, students answer questions to reflect on their learning for this unit. This lesson was designed for middle school (grades 6-8) but could be used in upper elementary grades or high school as well. Have your students explore the Protest Movements of the 1960’s by becoming an author of a textbook; whose job is to research, write, and creatively craft a chapter that will both inform and engage its readers regarding a protest movement of this era of time. Using Google Slides, students will be assigned one of the six following protest movements from which to research and create their chapter on:

• The United Farm Workers (UFW)
• The Anti-Vietnam War movement
• The Women’s movement
• The Gay Rights movement
• The Environmental movement
• The American Indian movement (AIM)

Using an inquiry based approach, the accompanied Slide Presentation will first have students explore the cause and effect relationship of how these protest movements came to exist in America during this period of time. This career unit gives students an introduction to the government and public administration career cluster and what a career in this field would be like. This is perfect for a career, technology, CTE or business class.

The included PowerPoint presentation can be used by the teacher for whole class instruction, or provided to the students electronically (or as a printout) for them to review individually. Students use close reading skills with a short informational passage to learn about the career field and answer questions to use critical thinking skills and demonstrate their understanding. Two different puzzles are included to learn different jobs in the career and to reinforce vocabulary skills. A technology based project (using MS Word or MS Publisher) to research information about a related topic is included to allow students to use critical thinking and creativity to further explore the career field. Additionally, a group current event project that can be completed without student computer access (by the teacher printing out the articles from the linked information) or providing access to a computer for each group to research is provided to allow students to utilize critical thinking skills and teamwork. Finally, a short reflection questionnaire gives students the opportunity to reflect and analyze their learning as they determine if this career field is of interest to them.

The project was created for grades 7-8 but could easily be used with high school students. The teacher can choose to use some or all of the provided lesson options included in this resource.

This lesson is great for distance learning/remote learning. You can upload it to your school's learning management system (Google Classroom, Edmodo, Canvas, etc.) or share with students via Google Drive.

Have your students see themselves through the lens of an investigator, exploring a complex and important inquiry…. ‘What factors caused the Great Depression’? Students, or your class investigators, will examine a variety of context clues and information that will help them solve this question. Students will identify the causal clues along with its effects, and then create a ‘LOOP’ (web) diagram that will serve to demonstrate their understandings of how these underlying causes interconnect with one another. This unit will prompt your students to become active learners in their pursuit of solving the mystery.

*This unit will have students explore dynamics of the 1920's, Great Depression, and the New Deal.

In addition, there are 3 optional extension activities to choose from:

1. Comparing advertising from the 1920's to today, and filling out a Venn diagram.
2. Listening to FDR's first fire side chat, and answering comprehension questions.
3. New Deal Matching Game: Analyzing & matching New Deal programs with the problems they attempted to address.

Firstly, there are eight reading comprehension activities, or informational texts, about:

• Charlemagne
• William the Conqueror
• King Richard I
• Robin Hood
• Genghis Khan
• Joan of Arc
• The Renaissance
• The War of the Roses

These activities require NO PREP and have a body of text that students need to read through thoroughly; then they can use the text to find the comprehension and grammar answers. All texts then have an extension activity, a crossword and a wordsearch for those fast finishers. Answers, for teacher use, are on the final page of each document.

Then, there are three biography writing units about Charlemagne, Joan of Arc and William the Conqueror. The units have been split into four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.

Also, there is an opinion writing unit about who was the most influential figure from the Middle Ages: Charlemagne, Joan of Arc or William the Conqueror. This unit has again been split into three or four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.

Finally, there is a Middle Ages Timeline Activity and Display. It is perfect for introducing students to the some of the key events and people of the period. There are 36 posters or task cards that include many of the key events from the end of the Western Roman Empire until the first voyages to the Americas.

This project based learning unit is perfect for middle school (6-8) classes that focus on careers, technology, history or CTE.

Unit Lesson Plans include:

Students create a timeline to show a century of inventions of their choice and make real-world connections in how those inventions influenced our history and society. Next, they choose five different inventions in different categories to explore in depth and create a PowerPoint. Finally, students research an inventor of interest and create a web page about them and their inventions, further connecting their learning to their own world and giving it an authentic audience.

My 7th graders loved sharing their research with each other and challenged each other to "think outside the box" as they gained a better understanding of technology and history. I know your students will enjoy this too!

A BOOM Cards™ Escape Room Activity & a printable Escape Room Activity about the legendary American heavyweight boxing champion and civil rights activist, Muhammed Ali. The NO PREP activities are ideal for distance learning and perfect for students in fifth grade or sixth grade.

Both activities have been split into four different tasks; your students will need to complete each of the tasks to reveal a word. Together the four words make a phrase for them to escape the room.

For first time BOOM Card™ users, the resource comes with an explanation of how to assign the cards to your class, and has lots of useful links to support you using the activity.

Both activities follow a similar format, with slight variances to the BOOM Cards version to allow the resource to be digital and self-marking.

In Task 1 students will read an informational text about Muhammed Ali and then find their way through a maze by answering true or false comprehension questions. If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word.

In Task 2 students will complete a crossword puzzle by answering ten questions. Answering these questions correctly will reveal some hidden letters which need to be unscrambled to reveal the second word.

In Task 3 students will sort 27 timeline task cards about the 1900s, putting them in order from the earliest date to the most recent. When they have finished their third word will be revealed.

In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word.
