Anticipation Guides are excellent tools that can be used before reading to activate students' prior knowledge and build curiosity about a new topic and/or to share ideas about key concepts. Students respond to several statements that challenge or support their preconceived ideas about key concepts as well as their peers’ ideas. The Anticipation Guides can help structure meaningful conversations that reviews what students already know and engages them in critical thinking about the topic they will be exploring. The statements in the Anticipation Guides can spark some great discussions among students!! This Anticipation Guide and Self-Assessment focuses on Groupwork and Collaboration.
You can use an Anticipation Guide:
✅ Before | After introducing new material to tap into prior knowledge.
✅ Before | After watching a film clip to gauge a reaction.
✅ Before | After reading a short text to begin a discussion.
✅ Before | After discussing a topic.
*******************************
ANTICIPATION GUIDES
There is ONE Anticipation Guide that comes in two different variations:
▶️ Variation #1:
⭐ *Part 1: *The first section of the Anticipation Guide features a list of statements alongside columns labeled "AGREE" and "DISAGREE." Students are tasked with reading each statement and marking either "AGREE" or "DISAGREE" based on their perspective.
⭐ *Part 2: *The second section of the Anticipation Guide prompts students to choose a statement from the list above and delve into its significance to them. They may reflect on how the statement connects to their own lives, share a personal experience related to it, or elaborate on their thoughts concerning its importance in greater detail.
**▶️ Variation #2: **This Anticipation Guide worksheet format includes a list of statements accompanied by columns for "AGREE," "DISAGREE," and "COMMENTS." Students are instructed to read each statement and mark either "AGREE" or "DISAGREE." They are then encouraged to elaborate on their thoughts or ideas regarding each statement in the designated "COMMENTS" column.
Students respond to thought-provoking statements to spark discussion and reflection before diving into group work. This activity gives teachers a clear sense of where students are at with their thinking about collaboration and also lets students hear and consider one another’s perspectives on how group work can run smoothly.
******************************
SELF-ASSESSMENT
This resource includes a single **Collaboration & Groupwork Self-Assessment. **It includes a student-friendly scoring guide at the bottom to help students reflect on their own teamwork habits. This tool encourages students to think about the kind of group member and team player they are, identify their strengths and weaknesses, and set realistic goals for improvement. By assessing their own collaboration skills, students gain more awareness of how they contribute to group success and where they can grow. They will score the statements using the following scale: 2 for “Regularly,” 1 for “Occasionally,” and 0 for “Never.”
This assessment also serves as a valuable tool for teachers to better understand students’ collaboration habits, track growth over time, and provide meaningful feedback to support their development as team members.

FLASHCARDS: Conscious Discipline-PDF included.
By Art Shack by JB
Need an awesome Movement Activity? I have just the thing for you! These creative 5 x 7-inch FLASHCARDS: Conscious Discipline were designed to be printed, laminated, and used in large groups, small groups, and in one-on-one student scenarios. These are also great for teacher faculty meetings too. I found it best to use the FLASHCARDS once or twice a week and keep it a consistent routine throughout the school year. Focus on the specific animal shown and discuss where this animal would be and how it would breathe and pose to gain focus. Make sure you demonstrate the pose with your class. Ask a student to help demonstrate this pose, and the sillier you are, yet focused, the more the students will want to participate with you in each of these fun and motivating animal breathing poses. This is a great UDL & SEL classroom strategy! I hope you and your kiddos love this! Enjoy.
