Writer's Workshop - First Twenty Days outline This gives you a twenty day introduction to writers' workshop in the middle grades. From going through the rules of the workshop, to editing vs. conferencing, to the different genre of writing. Everything is covered or introduced in this twenty day plan. Although this is intended for use when the school year begins, it can easily be used at any point throughout the year to teach different aspects that are covered. • Q3 Practice Essay: Designed for AP Lit teachers, this in-class essay assignment will enable students to practice the "Q3" essay from the AP Literature and Composition Exam. Included are three recent Q3 prompts that feature The Great Gatsby as one of the recommended works of literary merit. The assignment asks students to respond to one prompt by composing a well-written essay in 40 minutes. (5 pages)

This product includes directions and a rubric for writing your own set of vignettes in the style of Sandra Cisneros! Perfect for distance learning, the assignment reviews the attributes of a vignette and provides the writer with questions to consider before they begin writing. Students are required to structure their vignettes around a theme, and incorporate a strong "voice", just like Cisneros. A comprehensive rubric is included for students to refer to as they work, and for you to use to easily grade the assignments.

My students loved this creative writing assignment, and I was blown away with the products they created. I used it during distance learning by posting the document on Google Classroom, and having my students write their vignettes in a Google Doc. It worked perfectly!

After students read Act IV of Macbeth, this creative assignment asks them to choose a question to answer in the form of a soliloquy. The options ask them to consider what different characters were thinking as specific events were unfolding in the play. For example, one of the questions is "What is Banquo thinking as he is about to die?"

The instructions contain 7 different questions students can choose from, requirements, a chart they will use to analyze their own writing, and a rubric.

This is a GREAT writing assignment to use during distance learning as a digital assignment. Students can access the directions and rubric in this PDF, and write their soliloquy and analysis chart in Google Docs or whatever way you have them submit their work.

My students had a lot of fun with this assignment! They really liked experimenting with Shakespeare's style. Thank you for your interest, and please ask if you have any questions!

This assignment asks students to choose one of the given circumstances that were not included in S.E. Hinton’s original text. Using what they know about the characters and events of the novel, they have to write that scene. They should mimic S.E. Hinton’s style of writing, use a lot of figurative language, stay true to the “voice” of the characters, and not change anything that was in the original story. They are simply writing an additional scene that she never wrote. It's a great, fun narrative practice! I've also included a pre-writing planning sheet and a rubric.

At my school we read The House on Mango Street as a full class, and later in the year Woman Hollering Creek is one of the literature circle choices. I've also included a poetry analysis activity: a foldable for "Abuelito Who". It's a beautiful coming of age poem with themes of family, love, and loss.
