This no prep activity allows students to show what they've learned in the Parts of an Insect Emergent Reader or use it alone or as part of your own insect unit.

Students will sort crawly creatures into two categories: Insects or Not! A paragraph is included at the top to make sure the students remember just what makes an insect an insect.

Students will visually identify different images of candies and graph the information they find. They will use the graph to answer questions.

Based on ability level, students can use the single tens frame and the number cards to represent a given number using manipulatives. Students who are ready for more of a challenge can roll dice to create an addition problem and use the tens frames to represent and solve the addition problem using manipulatives.

Students can use this blending board to "drive" small cars to each letter, stopping at the circles to state the letter sounds. Students can "drive" the cars faster or more slowly to practice blending sounds to make words.

Use these task cards for math centers. Students can match the word problem to the picture equation and fill in their answers on the answer sheet provided. Equations cover numbers 1-10. I added room for the teacher to write in how many (if any) prompts are acceptable to follow directions and stay on task. I also left room for a percentage of work that should be completed. I know often my special education students struggle to complete assignments due to lack of focus, etc. So I might put that one student needs to complete 70% of his assignment and then gradually increase it. There is space for that to be written in in the chart.

Students can choose a big smiley face, a small smiling face, and a frowning face to show how well they were able to maintain the directives. At the bottom there is room for teacher signature and comments. At the top, the student has space to write what assignment he or she is assessing.

Two sheets print per page to save paper.

Valentine's Day Reading Comprehension and Sequencing Craft

Students will love this Valentine's Day themed, educational activity that goes along with one of my favorite Valentine's Day books: There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Rose.

Use these simple stories to assess sequencing a story. The simple passages are great for young learners or learners in special education.

Students will cut out images of a butterfly in every stage of its life and paste the images in the correct order. This is a simple science lesson that will offer a visual to pair with a lesson on the life cycle. It could also be used as an assessment at the end of the lesson.
