Critical Thinking Worksheets (by date, oldest first)

What middle schooler isn't excited by playing games as a part of their lesson? This activity takes their love of games to a new level as they work with a team to create a new board game, test them for "fun appeal" by playing and critiquing others' games and then making the necessary modifications to complete an awesome final product.

Created for middle schoolers, this project based learning lesson is a great addition to technology classes that teach programming, phone app creation and other game design as a way for students to really focus on what makes a game addictive.

Lesson includes teacher resources, including web links, design ideas and guides, student expectations and rubric, and student worksheets. This lesson can be completed entirely OFF computers, without computer access for students, making it great for those days you have to give up your technology lab for standardized testing.

This lesson is great for distance learning/remote learning. You can upload it to your school's learning management system (Google Classroom, Edmodo, Canvas, etc.) or share with students via Google Drive.

Setting SMART Goals is a lesson that helps students identify and plan goals for school or their personal life by utilizing the SMART method of goal planning (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Timely). This is a great lesson to start off a new semester or a new year.

In these lessons, students are provided with an introduction to the goals methodology and suggested resources for whole class activities are included to introduce the lessons. Next, students brainstorm with a small group and then work individually to craft their own individual goal. This project was created for middle school students but would easily be adaptable to any age group.

This lesson is great for distance learning/remote learning. You can upload it to your school's learning management system (Google Classroom, Edmodo, Canvas, etc.) or share with students via Google Drive.

How does media effect one's self esteem?

This package contains 6 lessons and a culminating task that will address this topic.

The package is meant to be taught over at least five lessons. With discussion, each page should easily fill a 45- to 60-minute lesson block.

Lessons include:

- definitions and discussion

- Influence of the Media

- self esteem and music videos

- what happens when a "beauty" company helps people see their beauty?

- evolution of an advertisement (print media/photoshopping)

- overcoming stereotypes and negative comments

- Think about how awesome you are

- Hand of friendship (culminating task)

There is currently no final assessment piece included in this package.

Each lesson, except the last, should be started with a gratitude journal page. The idea behind this it to help students see that they have a lot to be grateful for, regardless of what the media may portray to them. The journal pages shouldn’t take anymore than 5 minutes, max. For photo copying purposes, the journal page is placed before the worksheet, for any given lesson.

In this no prep lesson is an activity for students learn to analyse and interpret the various types and shapes of population pyramids in a single activity.

Represent data in a range of appropriate forms, for example climate graphs, compound column graphs, population pyramids (ACHGS049)

In this no prep lesson for you or an emergency sub in your Geography program, students will embark on a geographical journey to explore the intricate details of our world's layout. They will be provided with a detailed map, which will serve as their canvas to mark and identify the lines of latitude, distinguish between the different hemispheres, and pinpoint the continents. As they navigate through the map, students will also encounter a series of questions designed to test their understanding and observation skills.

Task:

Using the numbers as references, students must identify and label the following:

• Hemispheres
• Lines of Latitude

Develop mate reading skills and visual recombination skills

In this no prep lesson, students learn to analyse and interpret the information on what causes Hunger's part of your Geography program.

This comprehensive and interactive lesson plan, entitled "What Causes Hunger?", guides students through a thoughtful exploration of the various factors contributing to global hunger.

It engages students in a detailed understanding of the cycle of poverty, lack of agricultural investment, effects of climate and weather, war and displacement, unstable markets, and food wastage, and how each of these components plays a role in the prevalence of hunger.

Resources included:

• Guided instruction and links to external resources, such as the World Food Programme video "$1 a day," to provide a broader context and real-life representation of the issues.
• Individual activities and reflection prompts that encourage students to form their own conclusions, as well as express and validate their ideas.
• Discussion questions, both true or false and open-ended, to stimulate critical thinking and facilitate lively, thoughtful conversation in the classroom.
• A concluding reflection, challenging students to make connections between hunger, poverty, and economic development.

This comprehensive lesson is designed to cultivate an empathetic, global perspective among students and inspire them to think critically about worldwide issues like hunger. Suitable for Social Studies, Geography, Economics, and Global Studies courses for middle and high school levels.

Australian Geography Curriculum link:

Challenges to food production, including land and water degradation, shortage of fresh water, competing land uses, and climate change, for Australia and other areas of the world (ACHGK063)

Students will begin to see that certain features and shapes are often associated with particular population structures e.g. a wide base indicates a high birth rate, a narrow apex often indicates a high death rate, etc.

Within the lesson, students will be expected to apply this new knowledge and understanding by analyzing and interpreting a population pyramid from a range of countries.

Students also learn how variations in shape and size also relate to the dependency ratio (the amount of the population that is dependent on the working population) of a particular country. Students practice calculating and interpreting dependency ratio through a number of examples.

These slides can also be printed and displayed within the classroom or given to students as review notes.
