Teach students the steps to washing hands in this digital interactive activity with moveable pieces or you can use this by printing it out as a cut-and-paste activity in the classroom. This product also has a mini poster to hang up the steps to wash hands.

I teach and model for my students to wash their hands for at least 20 seconds. They need to clean both the back and front of their hands. I also model how to dry my hands with a paper towel and use that same towel to turn the water off. This way they keep their hands nice and clean before throwing away the paper towel.

Definition:
A Mini Socratic Seminar is a scholarly discussion of an essential question in which student opinions are shared and refined through dialogue with other students in small groups. In this mini format, the teacher or seminar leader facilitates the discussion for the small groups.

Seminar Directions:

• Students choose a group based on the category that best fits them.
• The teacher poses the essential question.
• Students respond to the question through note-taking.
• The teacher chooses a Socratic Seminar leader for each group.
• The leader facilitates the seminar discussion by guiding group members to a deeper and more clarified consideration of the ideas, respect for varying points of view, and adherence to and respect for the seminar process.
• Students may pose new questions when the discussion is exhausted. New questions posed must relate to students’ ideas and contributions in response to the initial essential question.
• Or leaders use the questions in the Google Slides to guide groups.
• Students write a summary by answering the EQ in their notes after the discussion.

AVID College Debate Activity - Speed Philosophical Chairs for Team Building: Use this college-themed AVID speed philosophical chairs icebreaker activity to promote debate through dialogue and public speaking in your classroom as well as get students in the college spirit! This interactive SEL classroom lesson provides fun and engagement for the entire class, while reminding them that everyone (including Disney characters!) uses growth mindset and gratitude in their roles - just as we should do! This activity will have students using creative thinking skills, communication, growth mindset, and so much more! My students have loved this activity and ask to do it frequently (See Leadership Lessons from Disney lesson in my store as well!) I use Disney characters as most are familiar with many of the characters and it is fun to see their faces light up when they get it correct. One of the magical moments with this lesson is seeing how easily they connect with the Disney characters when reflecting afterwards. These Social Skill Scenario Cards are realistic and relatable situations which encourage a child to explore whether that individual has demonstrated either helpful or unhelpful social skills.

In this product, students will begin to understand what words mean to others, get students to learn to actively listen to someone telling them information or telling them to complete a task, get students to verbalize more clearly, and get students to effectively communicate. Students will work with a partner by following their partners directions, and after the activity, students will evaluate the easiest part of the activity, hardest part of the activity, and answering the question why communication is important when verbalizing or interacting with others, students will read communication starters using facial expression, intonation, and tone of voice, the importance of using facial expression, intonation, and tone of voice are discussed in depth when having a conversation with others, Examples of different tones of voice are included in this product. Students will practice saying an expression a few different ways so they can understand how tone of voice is important, when we are frustrated or annoyed about something our tone of voice changes as does our intonation and facial expression, therefore, alternative strategies students can implement in their day to day routine are provided for when they feel frustrated, and when talking to others, students will learn that by listening to their conversation partner that they will understand how they are feeling based on their facial expressions, intonation, and tone of voice.

This product can be used for 4th - 8th grade, but can be used for younger or older students depending on maturity and academic level.

1. A central statement will be announced to the class and you will define the two sides of the debate (Agree/Disagree).
2. Students move to the side of the room that they intend to defend.
3. An embedded timer will be set for 5 minutes, and the debate will start between the two groups.
4. Students attempt to keep contributions to less than 30 seconds each.
5. A new prompt is displayed and we start another round of quick debates.
