This resource is an introduction to natural disasters. It contains five informational reading passages about natural disasters. It was made for the NGSS 3-ESS3-1 and 4-ESS3-2 Earth and Human Activity Standards. It covers the following

natural disasters:

Earthquakes

Floods

Hurricanes

Tornadoes

Volcanoes

The passages were written with third graders in mind, but the information is very interesting and complex and would be useful for upper grades as well.

There is a tips sheet for teachers and two recording sheetsfor students. One recording sheet is a graphic organizer for students to fill in as they read. The other one asks them to draw and label the natural disaster they have studied.

These are great to use with the whole class, in small groups, with partners, and even at centers!

This is a basic science journal for kids in primary grades. There are journal entry sheets (one for kindergarten and one for first and second-grade use). I included our scientific method recording sheets as well. These sheets can be used as a stand-alone for use with science lessons, or they can be assembled into a journal if you prefer by making multiple copies and stapling them together. Included is a list of suggestions and thoughts from the Science and STEAM Team.
