Less than $5 Elementary School Life Skills Games (by date, oldest first)

6 File Folder Games

File folder games allow students opportunities to learn to through play. Communication and appropriate interactions are important skills they will need throughout life.

This set provides 6 different activities, however they each follow the same general rules, expectations, and idea. I use this with my kiddos that need practice turn taking, losing (students may lose a desired game piece), cooperation, following directions, matching and so much more. The games are easy in nature, however highly addictive for the competitive kids. This allows for opportunities with students in differing abilities.

The themes for the games are:

Fill the Wagon

Make a cake

Buggy Day

Laundry

Moon Walk

Ice Cream

Rules (some differences in games - this example is the Fill the wagon rules).

Contents & Prep:

• Print/Laminate 1 mat per person, use a expo marker to personalize wagons.  Each player will collect their items in their wagon.
• Print and laminate 4 dogs, 4 flowers, 4 ice cream, 4 bubbles, 1 book, 1 leaf pile - place them in the middle of the game board. 
• Print the game board and glue/laminate to a file folder
• Print and prepare dice (or use your own dice)

*For easy storage of game pieces attach an envelope to the back of the file folder prior to lamination.  Make a small slice in the lamination to release the top of the envelope.  Attach velcro to close.  

Object:  Be the first to collect all the items except the leaf pile in your wagon.   If you have the books or the leaf pile and someone else lands on it you have to give it to the other player.  

Choose your player:  Once you have chosen your player, place them on the board any spot will do!

Directions:  

1. Roll the dice and move your player.
2. Collect the pieces as you go and place them in your wagon.   You may only get one of each item!  
3. The first person to collect 1 dog, 1 flower, 1 ice cream, 1 bubble and the books wins!

This Spanish Version Bingo game is a great game to familiarize students with a variety of helpful and unhelpful coping skills. This is a great game for individual, small group or even whole class activities. This game is the perfect supplement to your SEL lessons.

This bingo game includes the following unhelpful and helpful coping skills:

Counting, have a drink, bounce on ball, happy thoughts, hug favourite toy, stress ball, go for a walk, play play-doh, read a book, talk to someone, write it down, refuse to work together, pushing others, giving up, bossing others around, not listening, kick things, kick someone, tantrum, destroy property, throw items, using swear words and telling lies.

HOW TO PLAY

The caller reads the bingo card, and the players identify whether they have that card on their BINGO mat. If they do, then they cross it off and the first to cross off all 16 coping skills on their unique mat first wins the game!

This is a game to “Roll the Armor of God” based on Ephesians 6:10-17. There is 2 versions of this game. For the first one, the strength/characteristic is named and you dress the figure with that piece. In the second one, name of the object is rolled and the figure is dressed with that. This game is perfect for a variety of ages/grades and for at home or in the classroom!

NOTE: The Bible verse is from the NRSVCE. This makes them perfect for any Catholic classroom or religious education!

Use this activity as an icebreaker with your AVID students or for any class or content! This team building resource promotes good communication skills which allows for AVID families to build trust and relational capacity. It also helps students prepare to be successful in their future college and career endeavors. This engaging game will allow AVID students to continue to develop those peer relationship as well as develop necessary skills!

What's Included:

• cover page

• 48 drawing cards

Directions:

• Print and laminate multiple sets of the image cards.
• Divide the class into multiple groups.
• Group members take turns drawing a card from a pile.
• The person who drew a card must not show their team the image or use words to describe it. Ie if it is a rainbow you can only use shapes, lines, and location to describe the drawing and cannot say things like, "it forms after the rain."
• The group member describes and gives directions on how to draw the image.
• The team then tries to use listening skills to copy the drawing based on the directions given.
• Repeat until all cards have been used.

This AVID Career Clusters lesson and digital activity has everything you need to teach the different career clusters and allow students to apply their learning! Students can take focused notes over the career cluster teach slides and then they will play a game as they decide which career cluster they prefer through "This or That!"

Directions:

• After students learn the 16 career clusters provided in the slides, allow them to debate as they process and think about their futures in a specific career cluster with the this or that game!
• Students will either hold a thumb or 2 fingers to show which career cluster they prefer. OR make it interactive and allow students to choose a side of the room and turn it into a debate!
