This resource is packed with 90 easy-to-use prompts that will get your students excited about reading and thinking creatively. These activities are perfect for any book or reading ability.

How Can You Use This Resource?

• In the Classroom: Use these prompts as bell ringers, exit tickets, or independent activities. They’re also great for literature circles, group projects, and book club discussions.
• For Homework: Assign prompts to help students reflect on their reading at home.
• For Fun Extras: These activities are perfect for early finishers or as enrichment for students who want a challenge.

Examples of Prompts:

• Imagine the story happened in a different time or place—how would it change?
• Draw a map of the story’s setting and label key locations.
• Write a letter to your favorite character.
• Create a recipe for the book using “ingredients” like suspense, friendship, or humor.
• Predict what might happen next and explain why you think so.
• Summarize the story using only emojis and explain your choices.

How to use these printable bookmark templates:

1. Let your student's choose their favourite coloured bookmark.
2. Discuss the types of text they like to read or want to read this year.
3. Print on thick card stock or laminate for extra durability

This free graphic organizer is great for having your second and third grade students work on using different parts of texts to determine the main idea. Easy to use, just print and use with any text! When introducing, or reinforcing, main idea with my students, I review multiple ways to help determine the main idea of stories.

To find the main idea we:

• look at the title
• look at the pictures
• look for repeated words
• reread the first sentence

My class uses this organizer to list information gained from each of those tips and then combine it together to write the main idea in the middle.

Perfect for cooperative learning too!

• create groups of 4
• assign each student one strategy
• have them share with their group what they found
• work together to determine main idea
