INCLUSIONS:

  • Teacher Guide
  • Email Support
  • Four (4) pages of OOPS Cards (9 cards per page - a total of 36 cards)

Objective:
The objective of the game "Oops" is to get your teammates to guess a word without using certain pre-defined words or phrases associated with it - these are called "Oopsies"

Gameplay:

  1. The clue giver draws a card from the deck, revealing the mystery word and its associated oopsies (taboo words).
  2. The clue giver must describe the word without using any of the "oopsies" listed on the card.
  3. The clue giver's teammates try to guess the word based on the clues given.
  4. The clue giver can use any verbal clues or gestures but must avoid the "oopsies" at all costs.
  5. The clue giver's teammates can make as many guesses as they want within a time limit (usually one minute).
  6. If a teammate guesses the word correctly, the team earns a point. If the clue giver uses an "oopsie," they forfeit a point.
  7. After the time is up or the word is correctly guessed, play passes to the next team.
  8. Play continues back and forth until all players have had a turn as the clue giver or a set number of rounds has been completed.
  9. The team with the most number of points wins.

English as a Second Language (ESL) Game | English Conversation Practice

By Jessica

Use this game to get your students speaking in English! Yes--even the shy ones!

✨Take a peek at the preview to get a closer look.

WHAT IS INCLUDED?

  • 6-page PDF file
  • Directions
  • A game board
  • Game pieces
  • English question sheet for low-level beginners
  • English question sheet for mid-upper level beginners
  • Game vocabulary cheat sheet

HOW IT WORKS

  1. Print out the game board, questions, and counters.
  2. Divide the students into groups of two or more.
  3. Give each group the counters, one die, the game mat, and the game questions to begin playing.
  4. Note - There are two versions of the game questions: One version is for lower-level beginners and includes the answers. The other version does not include the answers so it challenges the students to speak in sentences without reading.
  5. The first player rolls the die and someone else in the group needs to ask the question in English. Encourage the students to not repeat questions!
  6. The player who rolled the die needs to answer in English using a complete sentence. If the player can answer the question in a complete sentence, they can move their counter on the game board the same amount of spaces that they rolled with the die.
  7. Repeat for the next player until someone from the group reaches the end of the game and WINS!

WHO IS IT FOR?

  • English as a Second Language (ESL) Teachers: You'll love this as a resource to practice asking and answering questions in English.
  • Homeschooling Parents: This game is perfect for getting your kids to practice speaking English so they can use it later in life!

FEATURES

  • Each page is 8.5" x 11", but you can adjust this in your printer settings.

Mastering the Irregular Verbs

By Bright Classroom Ideas Marketplace

What are Irregular Verbs?

Irregular verbs are verbs that do not follow the standard rules of conjugation in English. Unlike regular verbs, which form the past simple and past participle by adding “-ed” (e.g., walk -> walked), irregular verbs change in unique ways.

Why Do We Use Irregular Verbs?

Irregular verbs are deeply rooted in the English language, often because of their origins in Old English or other Germanic languages. They are commonly used, and knowing them helps speakers sound more fluent and natural.

Irregular Verb Forms

In English, verbs can have three main forms:

  • Base Form: The root form of the verb (e.g., go, see, buy)
  • Past Simple: The form used for past events (e.g., went, saw, bought)
  • Past Participle: The form used in perfect tenses and the passive voice (e.g., gone, seen, bought)

Understanding these forms is essential for forming correct sentences in past and perfect tenses. This ebook will help you and your students with that.
