This social story is designed to help children understand and accept that they won’t always get their own way and how to handle the word "no" gracefully. Using simple language and relatable visuals, the story explores the feelings of disappointment or frustration that can arise when things don’t go as hoped. It acknowledges that these feelings are normal and provides guidance on how to manage them.

The story explains appropriate reactions to hearing "no," such as taking deep breaths, asking for alternative solutions, or expressing feelings calmly. It offers practical tips for responding positively and shows how accepting "no" can lead to better outcomes and more positive interactions with others.

Ideal for parents, teachers, and caregivers, this story helps children develop resilience and emotional regulation by learning to cope with disappointment in a constructive and respectful manner.

What is included?

As well as a 18 page social story there is also a shortened adapted book version of the story with movable pictures to attach to each page.

Why do you need this?

The point of a social story is to use a patient and reassuring tone to teach children about social situations in a way that can be easily understood. Social stories can be useful for any child who is struggling to understand a situation or concept or needs help to understand a social skill or social cue, expectations, perspectives, common responses or is troubled about an upcoming event but social stories are particularly useful for children on the autistic spectrum for whom social cues can be challenging and who often suffer anxiety if they do not know what to expect from a situation.

How and when might you use this?

· To implement a social story, you should first ensure that you have eliminated distractions; that it is just you and the child sitting together focussed on the story.

· Initially you should read the story through twice with the child but it is then vital to revisit it regularly.

· Try to find a way to incorporate the story into the child's daily schedule.

· If the story is relating to a particular inappropriate behavior, it is useful to read the story when this behavior occurs, you do not however want the story to be seen as any kind of punishment.

· Regularly praise your child and keep it a positive experience.

These books should be used over and over to reinforce the point so I would suggest either putting the pages into a display book or laminating and binding them.

These editable star sticker chart or reward chart templates are in PowerPoint form. You will download files in a flattened and secured PowerPoint file format. This format will allow editing and rearranging of text, text changes and editing font colors, etc. You can insert a table or your own graphics into the blank templates where room allows. Please note that Clipart is not editable.

If you do not have PowerPoint then you can use a free on-line version at www.officelive.com - you just need to create an account.

You can change the font to whatever you prefer - I know I have favorites! The font used in the templates are free font. Potato Chips font and Hello Miss Thang fonts are used and can be downloaded for free (personal use only) by clicking on the links.

The Star themed Sticker, Reward or Incentive Charts are designed to fit on 8.5" x 11" paper and can be reduced or enlarged at the time of printing if needed or can be printed multiple times per page using your printer's settings. If A4 size is needed then you can adjust the template to fit A4 paper size at the time of printing by clicking FIT TO PAGE. Border-free printing will depend on your printer's capability and settings.

The sticker, reward, incentive charts are for classroom and/or personal use of the person downloading only.

Unicorn One Page Color, Cut, and Paste Craft and Write Activities.

Students will love creating these adorable unicorn crafts! These one page crafts using simple shapes and thicker lines making it easier for little hands to cut. One unicorn has 5 simple shapes to cut, and the second unicorn is more complex and has 12 shapes to color, cut out, and put together given model. After making their unicorns, students can write about them using the provided paper. Perfect for bulletin boards, centers, as well as OT sessions, groups, homeschool lessons, and fun home activity.

Students can put an x next to the item on the chart if they like the item or have had it in a restaurant before. At the end of the packet, students have the opportunity to answer comprehension questions about food that they order for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or dessert when they go out to a restaurant. This product was presented to students before they were required to create their own menu to pre-teach possible items they can find when looking at a restaurant menu. Students can then make their own menu after going through this product and choosing menu items they like.
