Fidgets and Wriggles Social Story for Children who have trouble sitting still
By SEN Resource Source
This social story is designed to support children who have trouble sitting still and managing fidgeting in class. Using simple language and clear visuals, the story acknowledges that being fidgety is normal and that it can help some children to concentrate and feel less anxious, but it emphasizes the importance of not letting it disrupt their own or others' learning.
The story provides practical strategies for managing fidgeting, such as using a stress ball, practicing deep breathing, taking movement breaks or engaging in quiet activities that help them stay focused. It also offers tips on finding appropriate times and ways to use their energy without affecting the classroom environment.
Ideal for parents, teachers, and caregivers, this story helps children with ADHD develop effective strategies for staying attentive and minimizing distractions, supporting a positive and productive classroom experience.
What is included?
As well as a 19 page social story there is also a shortened adapted book version of the story with movable pictures to attach to each page.
Why do you need this?
The point of a social story is to use a patient and reassuring tone to teach children about social situations in a way that can be easily understood. Social stories can be useful for any child who is struggling to understand a situation or concept or needs help to understand a social skill or social cue, expectations, perspectives, common responses or is troubled about an upcoming event but social stories are particularly useful for children on the autistic spectrum for whom social cues can be challenging and who often suffer anxiety if they do not know what to expect from a situation.
How and when might you use this?
· To implement a social story, you should first ensure that you have eliminated distractions; that it is just you and the child sitting together focussed on the story.
· Initially you should read the story through twice with the child but it is then vital to revisit it regularly.
· Try to find a way to incorporate the story into the child's daily schedule.
· If the story is relating to a particular inappropriate behavior, it is useful to read the story when this behavior occurs, you do not however want the story to be seen as any kind of punishment.
· Regularly praise your child and keep it a positive experience.
These books should be used over and over to reinforce the point so I would suggest either putting the pages into a display book or laminating and binding them.

Classroom Behavior Management Strategies and Interventions
By Rebekah Poe Teaching
Keep this quick reference guide for classroom behavior management strategies and interventions handy for when difficult behaviors arise in the classroom.
Print the Classroom Behavior Management Strategies and Interventions Quick Reference Guide on cardstock (laminate if preferred) and punch a hole in the top left corner. Use a binder ring to secure the pages together.
Use page 1 of quick reference guide as a way to determine an idea of the function of your student’s behavior. The box with the greatest number of checks should be considered as a possible function of the behavior. NOTE: THIS QUICK REFERENCE DOES NOT AND SHOULD NOT TAKE THE PLACE OF A FUNCTIONAL BEHAVIOR ASSESSMENT FOR SIGNIFICANT BEHAVIORS.
After determining a possible function, flip to the page of the book for that function to see a list of behavioral strategies to alleviate the negative behavior. Behavioral interventions are also suggested by function. NOTE: THESE STRATEGIES AND IDEAS FOR INTERVENTION DO NOT AND SHOULD NOT TAKE THE PLACE OF A BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION PLAN.
