Important Numbers: Back to School Activity
By Colleen Burdette
Begin the year with a number activity:
I spend a lot of time helping students change their mindset about math. The first activity that I do is this Important Numbers activity. This activity helps students understand that they are constantly using numbers and these numbers are important to their lives.
This product includes instructions to two versions of the activity so that it can be used at a variety of grade levels.
Students can use their creativity to complete their activity which will then be hung up as part of a display. Student will observe their classmates projects before completing the follow up questions. These follow up questions increase rigor and can be completed as individuals, with a partner, in a group, or to begin classroom discussion.
The extension activity will have students writing expressions which equal their important number.

Goal Setting: Back to School Goal Setting
By E•Fish•ient Teaching
This is a simple back to school goal setting worksheet. Students will think about one thing they would like to improve on in school and outside of school. Then they will write one new thing they would like to try this year. One goal is actually a habit that they would like to break or stop doing. The last thing, the students will write one word that they hope to exemplify their whole year.
