Visual Classroom Schedule

By The Responsive Educator

Why you need Visual Classroom Schedule

Many people think of using a visual schedule for autism, but the fact is that visual schedules can be beneficial to many different types of students. Other students who benefit from a visual classroom schedule include:

  • students who have a hard time with transitions
  • students who have a difficult time adjusting to change
  • students with anxiety
  • students who need predictable routines
  • students who are learning to read (or are learning to read in a second language) and need to picture cues to help them
  • students who have a hard time retaining verbal information
  • visual learners
  • students who need help building independence, such as those who are constantly asking when it will be time for a preferred activity (like lunch or recess!)

Visual Classroom Schedule includes the following EDITABLE cards (with multiple picture options):

arrival, art, assembly, band, bathroom/restroom, brain break, breakfast, calendar, centers, chorus/choir, circle time/morning meeting, clean-up, computers, computer ELA, computer math, dismissal, field trip, get on/off of the bus, guided reading, gym/PE, health, iPad, independent work/seat work, library/media center, lunch, math, meditation, morning work, music, music and movement, orchestra, occupational therapy, pack up, partner game, party, physical therapy, read aloud, reading/ELA, read to self, recess, rest time, science/STEAM/STEM, sensory bins, show and tell, smart board, snack, social studies, speech, therapy/speech/ language, spelling, star student, student conferences, use bathroom, wash hands, word work, worship, writing, whole-group

***Your purchase also includes visual schedule templates for each for the 4 included formats.***

Included Visual Classroom Schedule formats:

  • High-color images with digital clock
  • Lower-color images with digital clock
  • High-color images with both digital & analog clocks
  • Lower-color images with both digital & analog clocks

All schedule cards have fully editable text for the subject and time.

HINT: If you want to be able to use year after year without reprinting and laminating again, consider laminating without the time typed onto the clock. Then use a dry erase marker to write the time on each card so that you can change it as needed.

To use the version with the analog clock, simply dray in the hands or insert them in the ppt document (insert shape, choose arrow, adjust color and weight of line if desired) before printing and laminating.

Free Time Choice Board Visual Support for Autism and SEN

By SEN Resource Source

Choice board to support a child in choosing what they would like to do during free time or choosing time.

Why do you need this?

A choice board is a visual support that can be used to communicate what choice a child, who finds it otherwise difficult to communicate, would like to make. The use of choice boards can increase a child’s motivation to participate in school giving them a sense of control. Choice boards provide children with autonomy, engagement and personalized learning.

How and when might you use this?

This choice board allows children to select from a range of free choice activities such as dressing up, outside play, lego or trains set. This empowers children to choose strategies that work best for them.

By giving them agency over their choices, the choice board promotes independence, self-regulation, and decision-making skills.

Although there are 8 spaces for choices on the board you can use it to put in as little as two options depending on the child and their needs. There are 12 different choice cards so that again you can tailor which you put on the board according to the child.

What’s included?

Included is a choice board and then 12 different choice cards.
