~ Stink Solar System Superhero is a wonderful book to reinforce a solar system/planet study. Students will use their background knowledge about our solar system and gain new understandings about our planets. This literature unit is a great guided reading group study. ~Questions are based on Bloom’s Taxonomy and use higher level thinking skills. Owl At Home poke cards are a great independent, partner or guided reading group comprehension activity. The poke cards are self checking. Students will answer the question by selecting one of three choices. Using a pencil, straw, or pipe cleaner, students will poke through the hole to choose their answer. The correct answer will have a mark above or around the hole. The poking process quickly engages the students and provides immediate feedback to them. Cards have chapter titles on them for ease of organization. Teacher Preparation: -Print on card stock for durability. -Using a hole punch, at each * punch a hole. -Identify the correct answer and draw a circle around the hole or mark an X above the hole. -Laminate for durability.

~ The Case of the Marshmallow Monster is perfect for guided reading groups. The 12 page packet can easily be differentiated. ~Included in the unit: -vocabulary for the book -comprehension questions for each chapter -extension project – The Marshmallow Monster Chase game ~ When I use this unit with one of my guided reading groups, the unit can last from a week to two weeks depending on how often the group meets. My guided reading groups also set their own expectations/assignments for completing their books. Sometimes students work with partner to complete assigned chapters. ~The extension project is a wonderful culminating project for the book. Students use the game board and guidelines to create their own original Marshmallow Monster Chase game. ~ The Case of the Marshmallow Monster is an AR level 2.8 book.
