Solid Read Aloud is a monthly classroom read aloud that focuses on poetry for first, second, and third graders. The following poems and books are used throughout the unit: Bats, Flying Bats, and Those Bats from Can Teach; Stellaluna by Janell Cannon; Bats by Gail Gibbons. The Bat Solid Read Aloud is designed for a week long duration. During this week the read aloud will include: poetry, fiction, and nonfiction selections. Also included, poetry writing connection, graphic organizers, writing project, and art connection. This read aloud plan can easily be extended to fit a two week duration. The read aloud week will culminate with an art project which is used to display the students’ final writing piece. Who can use this resource:
French Immersion teachers in the Kindergarten to Grade Three classroom and those teaching beginner French students. Can be used at the Grade 4-6 level with Core French students learning to segment and blend complex sounds.
What grade level:
I personally use these activities with 1st and 2nd Grade students in French Immersion. I feel confident that students from K-3 will find these most useful and teachers can come back to them year after year with their students. Core French teachers will be sure to add the resource to their repertoire for Grades 4 to 6 as they learn to read and write at the Junior level.

These acorn sentence writing prompts are perfect for a fall writing center. There are 8 prompts for factual and opinion writing and 2 prompts for autumn acrostic poems.
