Students will learn the meaning for the word pessimistic, how you may feel if you feel pessimistic, the opposite of pessimistic, how to be more optimistic, developing confidence and why confidence is important, the difference between positive self-esteem and how that helps you feel optimistic and negative self-esteem and how that helps you feel pessimistic, and how to build self-esteem.

In the social story that is included in this product that relates with feeling pessimistic, students will learn how feeling pessimistic can impact relationships, communication, mood, etc. and how to be more optimistic in challenging situations.

The social story include comprehension questions throughout. Some of the questions require students to put their feet in the shoes of the characters. How to Use These Calming Strategy Cards?

1. For Whole Class: Choose a few to introduce to your students. Display the cards in your calm down area or put them on a ring for your students to refer to. Add to them when you see your students are familiar with using the techniques you introduced previously.

2. For Individuals: Create a ringed set of calming strategies for your specific student to use. Let them choose which ones they want to include in their own set. If they are unfamiliar with any of them, introduce them.
