This FUN and motivating project will get your Spanish students doing some presentational speaking for a real-world purpose! Students research the tourist attractions of a Spanish-speaking country and create an ad. The purpose of the ad is to attract more tourists, but the purpose of the project is for students to learn about the wonderful places in the Spanish-speaking world and to encourage them to put these places on their "must see" list! All parts of this activity are customizable to make them just right for your students.

In this mini-project, students will choose a Spanish-speaking country. They will research the "Can't Miss" tourist destinations of the country in-depth. Next they will find images of the places and important information about the places and use them to create an advertisement. Student have many options for how they would like to put their TV ad together, including Google Slides, Screencastify and others. The goal is to make an ad that the target audience can't resist! This country is the NEXT place they plan to go on vacation!

One thing I've struggled with in the past is students not using class work time well. To solve this, I created a timeline that explains what should be accomplished during each work period. It has been very successful in terms of students being on task during class work time, and has reduced the amount of "last minute" project completion that often results in low quality work. The timeline is now included with this project!

Depending on your class size and other factors, students can share their work in 3 ways:

-instead of recording their audio into their commercial, they can present live!

-they can record their audio, and the teacher can play each one for the class

-*This is what I usually do! I ask students to set up their computers on their desks, open to their presentation. Students switch seats and watch a number of ads that their classmates created. It ads more student choice and more engagement!

French School Lunch Menu Activities - 5 French and English Versions

Here are five no prep printable activities to use along with my free French school lunch menu series. You get five versatile worksheets that you can use with any of the lunch menus I've provided. Since there are so many menus available (and many more to come), having five different worksheets to use will keep your menu activities from becoming boring. All of the menus are in French only, but each worksheet has a French only and an English only version so that you can use them with any level whether you teach core French or in French immersion.

You can actually save money and precious planning time by purchasing the bundle I've put together which includes these 5 worksheets and all existing and future lunch menus. As I add new menus to the bundle you'll receive TeachShare notifications. I recommend printing the menu you want to use on one side of a sheet of paper and the set of questions you want to use on the other. Talk about a time saver and fun cultural addition to your food unit!

Versions 1 - 4 have ten questions each while version 5 has six questions. The questions on these worksheets will have your students learning a lot about cultural differences concerning menu items as well as the amount of time French students get for lunch, why there's no menu for Wednesday, etc.

Your students will find it interesting to see that French kids are offered une entrée, un plat principal, une garniture, un produit laitier, et un dessert every day.

It would be fun to look up images of some of these menu items to show students what they look like and if they eat anything similar at their schools or homes.

Want your Spanish students to learn about Day of the Dead , but  reading comprehension is getting boring in your Spanish class?  Turn it into a game!  This mystery-solving reading about Día de Muertos  goes from dull to exciting as students work together and move around the room to solve a mystery!  This is a simple “print and go” with no work for the teacher!  Use the same lesson plan for all of your classes, regardless of level, because your differentiation is already done!

   Students investigate with Maria, a young person from Mexico, while she tries to understand more about a former member of her town.  He visits the townspeople all year, not just during Día de Muertos.  Why can’t he rest in peace?   While they read the parts, they are also looking for “code words”.  Students record the code words on a special answer sheet that will eventually lead them to solving the mystery of how/why he died.   It’s so much fun! 

    After, you can decide which of the 4 follow-up activities you want to do with your students.  There are 4; a True or False Activity to check for basic comprehension, a graphic organizer for students to learn more about the specific items related to Day of the Dead, a “tell me in your own words” activity,  and a writing follow up where students use their reading comprehension and critical thinking to invent an explanation for who this lost soul was and why he died the way he did.  Answer key to the True/False is also included.  Best of all?  If there’s something you’d like to change for your students, you are free to edit!

The reading cards are written in English for your Novice classes, and Spanish for Intermediate classes.  The questions are written for Novice in English and answers will be in English as well. And for Intermediate, the questions and answers will be in Spanish.  The same for the instructions and mission!  Students get the benefit of learning about a cultural event while using teamwork!

These printable handouts accompany a video about grocery shopping in France on YouTube. The video is not my property and is not downloadable with this resource. You will need to watch it online. The video is about 6 minutes long, and this resource includes one page with 12 questions in English to share with your students for discussion about grocery shopping and preferences prior to watching the video. The second page includes 12 questions written in English to be answered while watching the video. There is a vocabulary list in French and English of all 39 French words introduced in the video. Need a mini-unit on cultural identity for AP Spanish®?  Here you go!!  This product contains 5 different resources to help you and your students understand cultural identity.  First, there is a great resource for the teacher to read about what things make up our cultural identity.  There are 4 articles for students to read- a great jigsaw activity where groups of 4 each summarize an article for other students!  There’s an amazing audio about how language influences our cultural identity!  *It’s in English, but WELL worth it!  There are discussion questions for small group or whole class chats, and there is a project that asks students to explore one aspect of cultural identity in a Spanish-speaking country and compare it with the US.

All you need is one bingo sheet per student and items to mark their board (such as pieces of paper or beans). You call out terms from the Call List included with the game and your students race to be the first to get a bingo. The Call List includes all the letters and digraphs from the bingo boards. This awesome Bingo game includes 28 classroom "survival" phrases on 32 different game boards (both color and black-and-white versions are included for a total of 64 boards).

✮ French Cultural Tips to Know Before Visiting France - A lesson on French culture ✮

These printable handouts accompany a video about French cultural tips on YouTube. The video is not my property and is not downloadable with this resource. You will need to watch it online. The video is about 8 minutes long, and this resource includes one page with 12 questions in English to share with your students for discussion about cultural differences prior to watching the video. The second page includes 12 questions written in English to be answered while watching the video. There is a vocabulary list in French and English of all 15 French words introduced in the video. Finally, to wrap up the lesson there is a fun crossword puzzle to complete. The clues are given in English and the answers are in French.
