The Civil War Adapted Notes and Review

In this product, students will learn about The American Civil War. Students will also learn the following: Who the President was during the Civil War, the main cause of the Civil War, abolitionists - Frederick Douglas, John Brown, Harriet Tubman, and Harriet Beecher Stowe - when they were born and where, where they died and where, what they did during the Civil War, and how they made a difference for the enslaved or tried to help them, The Underground Railroad - what it was and how it was used, The Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 - what it was and what the federal government was responsible for finding, why the South relied on slavery as much as they did and what their concerns were if it was to stop, The Confederate States, the first state to secede, and the Union, what unified means, when the Civil War began, how long the Civil War was, some major battles that took place that include - The Battle of Shiloh, The Battle of Bull Run, The Battle of Antietam, The Battle of Fredericksburg, The Battle of Gettysburg, and The Siege of Vicksburg are reviewed, what happened at each of these battles, who won, and facts about each battle are presented in this product, what happened when the Civil War ended, the kinds of weapons that were used during the Civil War on both sides - muskets, bayonets, and cannons, Why Abraham Lincoln didn't want African Americans to participate in the Civil War, who mane up the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, how brave African Americans were during the Civil War, what women did around the home and the community during the Civil War - how they took care of the home, raised money for war supplies, where they worked - factory and government jobs, acted as nurses to take care of sick and wounded soldiers, became spies on both sides (North and South), and how women would would dress up as men so they could fight in the Civil War, children and what their role was during the Civil War is also reviewed - how old children were when they had to help fight during the Civil War, younger children had to help during the Civil War as drummers and messengers, and how children felt when their family members were gone for long periods of time or never returned home.
The notes are adapted to meet your student's individual learning needs. Throughout the product, after each page of notes is reviewed, students will answer comprehension questions to review what was discussed on the previous pages. At the end of the product, students are provided with a review that includes multiple choice questions and short answer questions.

Students will be introduced to various ways of life, from South America to Europe to Africa, and will gain an understanding of each winter tradition and celebration.
Students will Adopt a Friend for the holiday Kwanza/ Ramadan / Hanukkah season and will explore ways of life during the holiday season.
Note: (1) This is a research project. Will need a zip file reader to open the file.

This lesson is easy enough for 5th graders to understand yet works well with students up to grade 12. Modifications can be made as needed.
Understanding the Four Economic Industries + Community Service Project
This cooperative learning economics industry and factor of production lesson addresses the four economic industries: Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, and quaternary Industries. A nation's economy can be divided into various sectors. Understanding these is important in understanding how our nation's economy works. Your students will have fun learning a lot about these industries!
A community service project is incorporated into this lesson. Students bring in food items such as cereal, canned goods, or anything that can be donated to a community food pantry. Make arrangements with the local food pantry to drop off or pick up the items. The items will be used for the lesson.
Students will use higher-level thinking skills to demonstrate how a product can begin in a Primary Industry and end up in the Quaternary Industry, and how each industry can play a vital part in how products are made and distributed.

Teaching map projections can be challenging. This lesson is an easy way to give students the foundation they need to understand what map projections are and how each has its own level of accuracies and distortions based on the size and shape of land masses and measurement/distance between points. This works very well with my students and is a fund group cooperative activity that requires higher-level thinking skills and or helps students develop higher-level thinking skills by analyzing various map projections, and determining their accuracies and distortions.
LESSON: MAP PROJECTIONS: WHICH ONE WOULD YOU USE?
GRADE LEVEL: 7-12th
TIME FRAME: 90-120 MINUTES (TWO 60-MINUTE CLASS PERIODS)
TYPE OF ACTIVITY: GROUP COOPERATION ACTIVITY
NOTE: ADJUST MARGINS UNDER PAGE SETUP BEFORE PRINTING or SCALE TO FIT TO AVOID GRAPHICS FROM BEING CUT OFF.

CLASSROOM SETUP:
INTRODUCTION: (10 minutes)
PROCEDURE: (Group Reading Activity—30 minutes)
Divide the class into groups. Provide each group with the Instruction sheet: Map It! As well as a rubric, poster board, crayons, colored pencils, markers, glue, a ruler and scissors. Explain the instructions to the class based on the Instruction Sheet: Map It. Review what the group needs to present during their group presentation using the grading rubric.
CLOSURE / EVALUATION: (20-30 minutes)
Students will present as a group their findings regarding their map projection.
