SEL Project: Students Create a Lesson
By Erin Cusumano
This project encourages students to choose an SEL topic of their own interest and create a presentation and activity as if they were delivering a lesson on it.
This project allows students to take the format of SEL lessons they've learned from and practice using it themselves to find, understand, and share information. This benefits individual students, as they can explore information of interest, and allows the educator to gauge what topics their students are curious about for future lessons.
If you have students present their lessons they also get practice talking about SEL topics and respectfully listening to peers do the same. I find this to be a great end of year project to wrap up SEL learning.
With presentations this project can be made to take up a whole week of SEL instruction (based on a 30-45 minute period a day). Day 1 students can hand in their topic and activity idea for teacher feedback, days 2-3 students can create the material, and day 4-5 students can present. Examples are simple for clarity and to suit a range of students, but expectations can be adjusted based on grade-level. This project includes a packet with clear instructions (with examples) and space for students to write their chosen topic and activity, an example slideshow, and two example activities that accompany the slideshow.
Research & Build a House - Architectural Styles & Creators | Distance Learning
By Innovations in Technology
In this lesson, students learn more about architecture as they research the history of different architectural styles, and learn about the creators of those designs. The lesson starts with a whole class Microsoft PowerPoint presentation (editable) to view the styles and start discussion. Next, students choose one of the styles to research further and create a presentation with that information. Optionally, these may be presented to the class. In the next part of the assignment, they design a house of their own (to scale) in the style they researched using Sketchup (a free CAD program that can be downloaded at: https://www.sketchup.com/ or used as an online tool). After completing the drawing, students build a model of their house to scale using chipboard, cardboard or other materials. Finally, students answer questions to reflect on their learning for this unit.
This lesson was designed for middle school (grades 6-8) but could be used in upper elementary grades or high school as well.
This lesson is great for distance learning/remote learning. You can upload it to your school's learning management system (Google Classroom, Edmodo, Canvas, etc.) or share with students via Google Drive.

Exploring Careers: Law, Public Safety,Corrections & Security | Distance Learning
By Innovations in Technology
This career unit gives students an introduction to the law, public safety, corrections and security career cluster and what a career in this field would be like. This is perfect for a career, technology, CTE or business class.
The included PowerPoint presentation can be used by the teacher for whole class instruction, or provided to the students electronically (or as a printout) for them to review individually. Students use close reading skills with a short informational passage to learn about the career field and answer questions to use critical thinking skills and demonstrate their understanding. Two different puzzles are included to learn different jobs in the career and to reinforce vocabulary skills. A technology based project comic creation project is included to allow students to use critical thinking and creativity to further explore the career field. A quick reference/tutorial is also included for StoryboardThat (free, no download needed). Additionally, a group legal case analysis project that can be completed without student computer access (by the teacher printing out the linked information) or providing access to a computer for each group to research is provided to simulate the career and allow students to utilize critical thinking skills and teamwork. Fashion Design Final Project Choices
By Mandy LaCour
This project is great for your fashion design students in your entry level class. I usually give my students 10 class days to complete whatever choice they would like to work on from the list. Feel free to give your students whatever timeline fits your lesson plan. I like giving the students choices in case there are students who would like to sketch instead of sewing. No matter what project they choose they are still required to type a paper that discusses the elements and principles of design. Each project has a different set of elements and principles of design that are required for the paper since sometimes it is easier to include certain ones in sewing projects versus sketches.
Prior Knowledge needed:
This project assumes that your class has covered the elements and principles of design but if you have not then feel free to omit that part of the project.
This download includes a rubric as well.
