10th Grade Spanish Graphic Organizers

Do you start off your class with a quick poll or check-in question? This set of graphics can be used from day one to get students using Spanish. This set has 190 different graphics that you can use in Desmos, Nearpod, Peardeck, or on a social media post to get input from your students. Each graphic gives them a choice of two different things. You can use it in different levels by adjusting the task.

Level 1 - from the beginning, you can have them just choose between option A and option B. Get lots of comprehensible input by having a class discussion about who prefers what. Later on, have them write complete sentences starting with "Prefiero...."

Level 2 - have students start to add more detail to their responses. Tell them to include details - where, when, with whom. Have them write more complex sentences explaining why they prefer something.

Level 3 - have students make their choice and then talk about the last time they ______.

Some graphics have very basic vocabulary, some have more advanced items - but all are easy to understand due to the images. There are also some cultural graphics mixed in.

Do your students struggle to write sentences about their likes and dislikes? This word-sorting activity will give them hands-on practice with this often tricky topic! In this activity, your students will sort the given list of 36 Spanish words into three categories: Me Gusta, Me Da Igual, and No Me Gusta. You could easily adapt this activity for other words, simply by providing your own list. In addition to the hands-on practice, each resource also includes two worksheet versions with the same words.

• one page of thirty six terms in Spanish with dotted lines for cutting
• one worksheet where students write their opinion ("me gusta", "me da igual", and "no me gusta") and translate the term to English

AP Spanish® teachers, make Back To School a breeze! Plan ahead for review for the AP Spanish® Exam! These review charts are working documents in which students can write the essential questions and notes about all the sources you examine in class. You can assign digitally in Google Classroom or print these charts. These attractive graphic organizers make a perfect, personalized study guide for the cultural comparison, or any type of unit assessment you may give in class!

These charts are easily customizable for both teacher and student. There is a colorful version for students who prefer to type. When we unexpectedly went to distance learning, I had to scramble as an AP Spanish® teacher. My students did not have access to their textbooks or the audio that went with it.  We used the Temas text, but I found that I had to adapt.  So, my lesson plans are now based almost entirely on authentic materials that I have found and curated.  I have created vocab lists around these materials and the activities that will go with them!  There are times during the lesson plans where I offer a suggestion from something that is found in the Temas textbook, but these lessons can be used fully without those suggestions.

Along with the honor of teaching our most advanced Spanish students comes the burden of heavy correcting and tons of planning.  We also have other preps.  Having an entire year’s worth of curriculum, lesson plans, projects and assessments ready to go will save you an incredible amount of time and relieve some of the pressure that we face as teachers. 

In my classes, we also review grammar and use the Avance text as a guide.  I include a study guide and a grammar quiz in each unit, but the practice activities (if you want to review grammar in class) are not included.

I have been teaching AP Spanish Language and Culture® since 2014 and have 24 years of teaching experience.  As I am still a classroom teacher, my activities and ideas evolve each year.  My students have done overwhelmingly well on the AP® exam over the years and almost all have earned the scores needed to get college credit, with many receiving 4’s and 5’s. I am successfully teaching this course in conjunction with the University of CT as another way for students to earn college credit. My former students report taking Spanish classes at the college/university level and having a high level of success!
