I have your back. I've been teaching math and computer science, including APCSP, APCSA, and Data Structures for almost two decades. I also teach an introduction course. This is part of the course I made up for my intro students. I have a BS in computer science and know what students need to know.
This is an optional lesson. It is part of an introductory Programming in Java course. If you are doing the full course, you might not have time for this. These lessons are meant to be done over a few days; the idea is to get students doing cool stuff as fast as possible. With Java, that is NOT an easy task.

This is a fun and musical way to discuss a tough subject on plate boundaries and how they affect the African Rift Valley along a divergent plate boundary where the Somali Plate and African Plate are drifting apart. In millions of years, this could cause not only East Africa to become a new small continent, but would create a new ocean.
This lesson incorporates music as a learning tool. Students will enjoy the new rendition of the song Breaking Up is Hard to Do. It is a love song from West Africa to the East African Rift Valley. An original teacher-created MP3 of the song is included in this lesson.
OBJECTIVES:
- The learner will listen to and analyze the song.
- The learner will understand how physical processes shape patterns in the physical environment specific to tectonic plated forces.
- The learner will describe different landforms such as trenches and lakes near Africa’s Great Rift Valley and the physical processes that cause their development.

Hello and welcome!
Are you math teacher and have been thrown into teaching a computer science course? Now you have NO IDEA where to start! Have you taught computer science, but want to try something else? Math and computer science are related, but are not the same!
I have your back. I've been teaching math and computer science, including APCSP, APCSA, and Data Structures for almost two decades. I also teach an introduction course. This is part of the course I made up for my intro students. I have a BS in computer science and know what students need to know.
The second semester of lessons are an extension and not taught in most schools. I researched and created them with a focus on students having fun while using higher level coding techniques. They are geared toward using Java to create forms and games. These sections are by far my students' favorites because they get to use images, GUI components, and animation.
These lessons are meant to be done over a few days; the idea is to get students doing cool stuff as fast as possible. With Java, that is NOT an easy task.

Managing Anxiety Activities and Examples

Context Clues Worksheets Determining Meaning of Unknown Words

Why teach word meaning through nonsense words?
- Students must use critical thinking to solve
- Students must read the whole passage for context clues
- Students must problem solve to find the best word that makes the most sense.
- They can't find the answer except through problem solving.
All of these are things we want every student to do! This is something that is already adapted for high and low learners.
Starting with three nonsense words gets students going so they can work in groups or independently to decode the meaning of 7 REAL words (selected from the SAT vocabulary list).
