**Social cues **—both verbal and nonverbal— and body language are everywhere we look—often communicating more than words ever could. A raised eyebrow, crossed arms, a quick glance, or even silence can completely change the meaning of what’s being said. Sometimes, people need to “read between the lines” to fully understand the message. For students, the ability to recognize and correctly interpret both spoken and unspoken signals is an essential life skill. It helps them respond appropriately in conversations, build stronger relationships, and avoid misunderstandings.
This resource was designed to help middle and high school students strengthen their social awareness by identifying, interpreting, and responding to both verbal and nonverbal social cues in real-world situations. Whether it’s noticing sarcasm, decoding body language, or navigating subtle emotional signals in conversations or texts, these activities teach students to look beyond the words and understand the why behind them.
Students are also learning how to read between the lines, pick up on implied meaning, and understand the intent behind words, tone, and reactions.
With each worksheet, students build emotional intelligence, communication skills, and relationship awareness—tools that support not only social-emotional growth but also classroom success and conflict resolution.
Key Themes Students Will Explore in These Social Cues Activities:
▶ Reading Between the Lines
(Interpreting subtle messages that aren’t directly stated)
▶ Tone and Meaning
(How tone changes the meaning of a sentence in conversation or text)

▶ Identifying Emotional Clues

▶ Cultural Awareness and Differences
(How people from different backgrounds use and interpret social cues)
▶ Text Message Interpretation
(Picking up on emotional tone and intent through written messages)
▶ Self-Expression and Misunderstanding
(How students communicate their own feelings—and what they want others to understand)
▶ Responding with Empathy
(Using social awareness to build trust and avoid conflict)
▶ Building Stronger Relationships
(Recognizing the power of nonverbal communication in friendships and group dynamics)
Covers topics such as:

Procrastination means to intentionally or unnecessarily postpone, delay, or avoid decisions, actions, or the completion of tasks. It is the avoidance of tasks that need to be done. Many teens are procrastinators and consistently put off tasks. There are many reasons why teens procrastinate. Some teens have trouble accurately estimating how much time something will take to complete a task and think that they’ll have more time to get it done than they actually do and put it off until they can’t anymore. Another reason why some teens procrastinate is because it’s difficult for them to manage the stress, anxiety, or even boredom they anticipate feeling. As a result, they put off starting tasks.
These Procrastination Activity Worksheets and Reading Passages explore the negative effects of procrastination as well as strategies that can be used to help avoid and/or overcome procrastination.

Each passage comes with five extended answer questions and an answer key, where the themes in the passages are further analyzed.
❤️ Reading Passage #1: "Future Me’s Problem"
This reading passage examines the short story of a girl procrastinating on an English assignment. The text explores how putting off tasks until the last minute can affect stress levels and the quality of the completed work. By examining the sources of the narrator’s procrastination and her mindset, students will gain an understanding of the negative effects of procrastination on teens.
❤️ Reading Passage #2: "My Saving Grace"
This reading passage examines the short story of a boy as he uses a plan to avoid procrastinating on an English assignment. Throughout the passage, the narrator details a range of strategies he employs to complete the assignment, showing the effects of these strategies on both the project itself and his mindset. Students will evaluate the narrator’s healthy approach to the project and learn about the benefits of his methodology.
EACH Passage Packet includes the following items:
▶️ 2 Reading Passage Vocabulary Sheets

Anxiety is a common human reaction involving the mind and body, marked by feelings of uneasiness, nervousness, worry, fear, or dread about what's coming up or might happen. It acts like an internal alarm system, triggering when someone senses danger or threat. Lately, we've observed an uptick in anxiety among our students, especially teens who are dealing with various stressors.
While it's typical for teenagers to feel concerned during busy and complicated times, it becomes problematic when these worries take over their lives. Unmanaged anxiety can impact students' ability to perform well and handle everyday tasks with a sense of calm. It's essential to teach all students, not just those who are particularly anxious, how to effectively cope with their emotions and anxieties. This helps contribute to their overall well-being and gives them tools to navigate life's challenges more successfully.
This packet includes 36 Anxiety Activity Worksheets along with comprehensive Answer Keys. These worksheets offer a range of activities addressing anxiety, worry, and nervousness, offering valuable assistance in guiding your students towards practicing positive coping strategies for handling anxious feelings. Through engaging scenarios and examples, students can enhance their emotional control skills in practical and relevant ways.
This resource features both print and digital versions, with pre-existing text boxes in the digital format. Whether you're assigning activities to students in person or remotely, this resource is adaptable to both.

Peer pressure is real and all too common! Teens constantly experience all kinds of peer pressure both in and out of school. Peer pressure can ultimately affect teens' decision-making. It's often hard to navigate difficult situations and say "no," especially when there is a strong human need to fit in and feel important.
This resource focuses on negative peer pressure, providing opportunities for teachers, educators, counselors, and parents to help students:
★ make better decisions when it comes to awkward or difficult situations
★ say "no" when they have to
★ think before they act
★ consider possible consequences of their decisions
Additionally, the scenarios in the activities allow opportunities for you to teach your students exit strategies or ways to say "no" to negative pressures.
Together, you can think through strategies on how to deal with those situations and scenarios if they arise. This can be done by discussing the scenarios and even role-playing. It is helpful to think about these things ahead of time rather than dealing with situations as they occur or trying to recover after they happen.
Practicing to say “no” in a variety of ways and in a variety of situations will prepare them for real life situations.
The activities and scenarios encourage students to think about and practice how to:
▶ navigate difficult situations and challenges with peers and close friends.
▶ practice and suggest ways to say ”no.”
▶ have difficult conversations with the very people they spend a great deal of time with.
▶ articulate their feelings clearly and appropriately in situations that make them feel uncomfortable.
▶ build confidence in managing their emotions in awkward or tense situations.
▶ handle challenging situations with a sense of maturity.
▶ improve social skills and behavior.
▶ communicate boundaries respectfully.
▶ evaluate best solutions in different situations.
▶ solve problems
