French Direct, Indirect, Y, EN Pronouns Challenge Task Cards Activity

By Love Learning Languages - French Resources

French Pronouns: Direct, Indirect, Y, En - 150 Practice Cards in 3 tenses

This is a set of 150 French pronoun practice cards. These cards are written in the present, futur proche, and passé composé tenses and do not include negation. Have a look at the video preview and you'll really get a sense of how this resource can be used.

➯ This resource is included in my French 2 curriculum: Ça y est, je parle français!

➯ This resource is included in my French 3 & 4 curriculum: Ça y est, je parle français!

There are 75 cards to practice using the French pronouns Y and EN in three different tenses. These practice cards will help students better understand when to use Y and EN in many different situations.

There are 75 cards to practice using French direct and indirect object pronouns in three different tenses. These practice cards focus on using: LE - LA - LES - LUI - LEUR. These practice cards will help students better understand when to use LE or LA to mean HIM or HER instead of LUI, and LES to mean THEM instead of LEUR.

Each card indicates a subject pronoun, verb in the infinitive form, and another word or words to complete the sentence. Students first form a sentence using the elements provided, then they restate the sentence using either LUI - LEUR - LE - LA - LES - Y - EN. A four page answer key is provided. I recommend printing them on the front and back side of two sheets of paper so that you can easily distribute them to students for them to check their own work. This is an activity that students can work on alone or in pairs or small groups. My students really like to do this activity with a partner. One student says the sentence without the pronoun, then the other one says it with the pronoun. They take turns going back and forth.

EXAMPLES:

PRÉSENT - JE - ALLER - LA FAC

Je vais à la fac.

J'y vais.

PASSÉ COMPOSÉ - TU - FAIRE - DU PIANO

Tu as fait du piano.

Tu en as fait.

FUTUR PROCHE - ON - PARLER - DE NOËL

On va parler de Noël.

On va en parler.

PRÉSENT - JE - PARLER - MARIE

Je parle à Maris.

Je lui parle.

PASSÉ COMPOSÉ - TU - MANGER - PIZZA

Tu as mangé la pizza.

Tu l'as mangée.

FUTUR PROCHE - VOUS - FINIR - DEVOIRS

Vous allez finir vos devoirs.

Vous allez les finir.

French Avoir Expressions - Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening

By Love Learning Languages - French Resources

Do you find it nearly impossible to find French grammar based reading, writing, speaking, and listening activities?  The focus on specific grammar themes seems to get pushed aside when you want to incorporate all of the other skills.  This is a set of four booklets based on French avoir expressions

When you’re teaching the French verb avoir, you may not want everything you do to be absolutely grammar based, because that can become boring.

This set of four one-page front and back, no-prep booklets includes reading comprehension with questions, a grammar quiz, a writing exercise with three activities, and a partnered writing and speaking activity.

These activities do not include rules. The activities in these booklets are not for absolute beginners. Check out my French Avoir Expressions Ready to Use Printable Lesson, Exercises, PowerPoint.

These activities are meant to provide your students with an opportunity for a challenging review of this grammar topic.

All of the booklets are based on mastering French avoir expressions.

Once you’ve taught the rules, it’s time to have some fun with avoir!

This resource includes the following:

⭐  Reading Comprehension Text

⭐  10 Reading Comprehension Questions

⭐  Grammar Quiz - 15 Questions

⭐  Writing Work - 3 Exercises

⭐  Write and Ask Questions + Speak

⭐  Answer Keys Included

All you have to do is print the 4 half pages double-sided so that you have 4 half pages that fit on one page of paper.  Once you’ve printed, just fold the paper in half, and you have a booklet!

You’ll notice that the different booklets reach into reading, writing, speaking, and listening, while still incorporating and focusing on French avoir expressions.

The reading comprehension booklet includes:

➤ Cover page

➤ Reading comprehension passage including the grammar theme many times

➤ Two pages with 10 multiple choice comprehension questions

➤ Answer key

The writing activities booklet includes:

➤ Cover page

➤ Sentence writing activity to include the grammar theme with proofreading check boxes

➤ Vocabulary page where students choose a theme and write 16 words that correspond to the grammar topic

➤ Paragraph writing page to include vocabulary from the list and the grammar theme with proofreading check boxes

The quiz / exercise booklet includes:

➤ Cover page

➤ 3 pages with 15 multiple choice questions based on the grammar topic

The partnered writing / speaking booklet includes:

➤ Cover page

➤ 3 pages with space to write a question to ask someone including the grammar topic.

➤ There is space for:  6 original questions, the name of the person to whom they ask the question, and space to write the person’s answer to the question.

ALWAYS PREPARED…

These booklets are one of my favorite "go to" resources when I want to get my students reading, writing, listening, and speaking to each other while focusing on specific grammar themes that require a lot of practice.  There's something about changing up the routine that is very motivating to students.

ALWAYS PREPARED…

You will be able to pull out this set of booklets again and again, year after year, as you teach and reteach French grammar topics.  There are 100 sets of booklets in this series, and it's never a bad idea to pull out a random stack even with your more advanced students to give them a solid review of certain things they may have forgotten.

ALWAYS PREPARED…

These no-prep booklets can easily carry you through your whole career as a French teacher, and they'll save you so much time.  I like to have baskets of these booklets ready to pull out and go at the drop of a hat.  How about never needing to prepare for a sub on days when you can't be there?

Why Learn Another Language Scavenger Hunt Game for Spanish, French, Italian

By Specialty Spanish

Need a fun way to start the year in World Language class?  How about a team-building  game!  This reading about why students should learn another language goes from dull to exciting as students work together and move around the room to solve a mystery!  This is a simple “print and go” with no work for the teacher!  This is a great way to get the year started with new students, or to provide motivation when you see interest and effort waning.  This activity is in English, and can be used by any World Language class!

All World Language teachers want to motivate and encourage our students, and help them see the value of becoming proficient in the language they’re studying. This story gives 10 teen-friendly reasons why it’s so beneficial to prioritize learning a new language!

The story revolves around two teens trying to decide what classes to take.  Your students play the role of the mystery solvers.  They have to read all 10 parts of the story to figure out the answer to the final question;  what will the students grow up to be in their career?   While your students read the story parts, they are looking for “code words” in the story.  Students record the code words on a special answer sheet that will eventually lead them to solving the mystery of teens’  future career.  It’s so much fun!

After, you can decide which of the 4 follow-up activities you want to do with your students.  There are 4; a True or False Activity to check for basic comprehension, a “tell me in your own words” summary activity, an opportunity to work with a group and write a story about a adventure the teens will have in their career (which can be done in the TL),  and an activity where they can explore possible careers for bilingual people.   Answer key to the True/False is also included.  Best of all?  If there’s something you’d like to change for your students, you are free to edit!

Who can use this product?

  • Students taking a World Language
  • Middle or High School

How can I use this product?

  • Print out the reading cards (10)
  • Hang them up around your room
  • Print and copy the answer sheet
  • Let students loose to solve the crime!
  • Assign follow-up activities if you wish

French Noël/Christmas Vocabulary Activities/Practice/Enrichment/Emergency Sub!

By Churros and Croissants

The holidays are an equally magical and crazy time. Why not capitalize on this excitement by squeezing in a little vocabulary enrichment and give yourself a break at the same time?
This resource includes a list of 25 Noël-themed vocabulary words in French with 10 different fun practice sheets. You can use all these versatile activities in a single instructional day or parcel them out as bell-ringers or fillers throughout the month.

Files include:

  1. Vocabulary List: Kickstart the lesson with a curated list of 25 Christmas words in French. From elves and snowflakes to reindeer and the big guy, this list hits all the highlights of the season.

  2. Repetition-Based Learning: Utilize the power of repetition to solidify vocabulary retention. Students will practice writing Christmas words multiple times, enhancing their memory and fluency.

  3. Categorizing: Engage your students in critical thinking as they categorize their new vocabulary by grouping it into different mugs of steaming cocoa.

  4. Word Jumble: Challenge your students' word recognition skills with an exciting word jumble activity.

  5. Drawing and Labeling: Tap into your students' artistic side as they sketch and label their new words. This activity promotes creativity while reinforcing vocabulary and spelling.

  6. Word Search: This activity enhances spelling, vocabulary recognition, and problem-solving skills.

  7. Matching: Learners make connections between words and visual representations. By actively associating and pairing words and images, learners establish meaningful connections that enhance their understanding and retention of vocabulary.

  8. Short Answer: Provide an opportunity for students to apply the vocabulary in meaningful ways. By constructing responses, students connect the vocabulary to specific contexts, demonstrating their understanding of how the words are used. This application helps with recall and enhances their ability to use it effectively.

  9. Creative Writing: Students draw from previous language knowledge to create complete sentences relevant to the new vocabulary. This is a slightly more advanced activity that allows students to use higher-level thinking and creativity to form sentences using verb tenses and additional they are familiar with.

  10. Article Practice: Reinforce grammar basics through organizing nouns by gender.

  11. Code Breaker: Decoding the vocabulary is like solving a puzzle. It encourages critical thinking and problem-solving skills as learners work to match the symbols to the correct letters to form vocabulary while providing ongoing review and reinforcement.

Give YOURSELF a gift this season - Busy, Happy, and Quiet Students!

*Answer key is included only for Categorizing, Short Answer, Matching, Article Practice, Jumble, and Wordsearch activities. Answers will vary for other activities.

France Trivia Game - French Game Activity

By Love Learning Languages - French Resources

This 90 question trivia game is loads of fun for an end of the year or semester game, a back to school activity, a sub plan or use trivia for bell ringer and icebreaker activities.

Though his product was created for French classes, it will work for any high school class since the questions are based on general knowledge and not only French related information. I’ve included several different versions (see full details below) including French only and French and English as well as powerpoint versions which will allow you to project the game and play as a class.

This trivia game is great fun as a French club activity!

You may also enjoy my France Trivia Quiz Activity - French Culture Game

This resource includes:

90 trivia cards - French only with answers

90 trivia cards - French only without answers

90 trivia cards - French and English with answers

90 trivia cards - French and English without answers

Each trivia question is assigned a point value (the easiest are worth 1 point and the most difficult are worth 9 points).

There are a number of ways you can play this game. Here are some of the ways I like to use this game:

1. Have students play in small groups of at least 3. One student calls the questions and verifies the answers. Students keep track of their score and in the end the one with the most points wins.

2. Project the PDF version of the game and have students write their answers and points scored on a numbered sheet of paper. You could easily allow students to work in small groups so that they can help each other out. In the end, the group with the most points wins.

3. Classic Jeopardy: Draw the game board which is composed of boxes with points in them on the classroom's whiteboard or project it from a computer. Group students into teams. The game starts when the teacher chooses the first easy box that teams need to answer. Once the first box has been answered, the team that answered correctly can choose the next question. They can choose the hardest questions if they want additional points or they can opt for easier ones for lower amounts of points. For the final round, also known as DOUBLE JEOPARDY the points double. The game ends when all the questions on the board game have been answered and the team with the highest score wins.

French Verbs Followed by À and DE Challenge Task Cards Activity

By Love Learning Languages - French Resources

French Prepositions Before Infinitives - À, DE, or NOTHING at all

Certain French verbs must be followed by DE, À, or NOTHING when an infinitive comes next. This lesson includes common verbs that are used on a regular basis.

TRÈS IMPORTANT: This is a lesson about French verbs when followed by infinitives and not nouns.

All of the following is included in this resource:

➯ STEP 1: Download the 5 page lesson with examples in French and English.

➯ STEP 2: Download the cheat sheet which is a handy one page reference document that lists all of the verbs from the lesson with English translations.

➯ STEP 3: Students read the list of verbs on the left, and in the spaces provided on the right indicate whether they’re followed by à, de, or nothing when used with infinitives. Next, fold the paper in half on the dotted line, and use it as a practice chart.

➯ STEP 4: Exercise 1 - Fill in the blanks with À, DE, or NOTHING at all. Answer key included.

➯ STEP 5: Use this Quizlet study set to practice memorizing which verbs are followed by À, DE, or NOTHING. This set includes fun games and tests to evaluate your progress.

➯ STEP 7: Students practice making their own sentences using the verbs from the lesson with this set of 60 speaking cards. Each card indicates a subject, verb, and when necessary À or DE. Every time they pull out the cards to practice, they can use a different infinitive. Half of the cards feature different forms of negation:

  • ne...pas
  • ne...plus
  • ne...jamais
  • ne...rien
