Most teenagers will explore or become curious about sexual behavior at some point in their lives. While some may already be sexually active, many lack the information and guidance needed to make informed, responsible choices. Without proper education, they may be more vulnerable to peer pressure and risky sexual behaviors.

Today, young people are engaging in sexual activity earlier than before, making it even more important to provide them with realistic, thought-provoking scenarios that help them navigate these situations. Educating students about healthy sexuality, safe sex, consent, boundaries, and positive relationships can empower them to make wise decisions that promote their well-being and prevent life-altering consequences.

It’s natural for teens to have questions, concerns, and emotions surrounding sex and relationships. This resource encourages open discussions, critical thinking, and self-reflection, helping them explore their thoughts, ask meaningful questions, and find the answers they need to make informed choices.

Help your students navigate real-life challenges with this set of 52 engaging , relevant, and thought-provoking scenarios focused on sex, intimacy, relationships, peer pressure, LGBTQ+ identity, STDs, consent, boundaries, self-esteem, and personal safety. This product will help your students to become more independent, confident and successful out in the community.

Scenario Worksheets WITH Questions

Scenario Worksheets WITHOUT Questions

Teens today face an array of challenges. In their day-to-day life they have to navigate difficult and sometimes complex interactions with others. Our students are learning how to make constructive decisions about important and impactful life events. It is possible that our students may be dealing with demanding situations at home, school, and their neighborhoods. Perhaps they are facing new problems with friends. They may be finding their growing responsibilities overwhelming. In some cases, our middle and high school students may feel alone in making decisions that will influence the rest of their lives.

As teachers, we have a unique opportunity to present our students with relatable hypothetical scenarios that may feel very real and relevant to them. These Scenario Task Cards allow educators to suggest possible situations that may occur in their lives. Importantly, this resource also makes space for students to empathize with people that may be experiencing something different to them. By having mature discussions around key social and emotional topics, we open communication and build connections as a school community. We want our students to feel supported in a classroom where they belong. This resource can help you to build this sense of community while allowing for challenging topics to be discussed.

Discussing these scenarios and using them to brainstorm effective ways to navigate conflicts and other difficult situations can help your students make wise, responsible decisions when and if they are later confronted with similar situations.

This resource includes 60 real-life, relevant scenarios related to the following topics:

⭐ Working a job and family financial pressure

⭐ Decision making around being sexually active

⭐ Bullying and Cyber bullying

⭐ Dealing with humiliation and insecurities

⭐ Family and partner violence

⭐ Handling gossip and derogatory language

⭐ Dealing with discrimination based on sexual identity

⭐ Handling racist insults

⭐ Standing up for others and your beliefs in social settings

⭐ Dealing with false rumors about yourself or others

⭐ Considering how your actions impact on others

⭐ Personal responsibility

⭐ Responding to others you know via social media in appropriate ways

⭐ Social media use, drama, and its impact

⭐ Not having enough food or money for lunch at school

⭐ Peer pressure and decision making around alcohol and drugs

How/When To Use the Scenario Task Cards

  • Role-Playing: The scenarios provide students with opportunities to discuss, understand, and role play the variety of effective ways they can resolve conflicts, set and communicate boundaries, practice saying NO, have difficult conversations, and navigate peer pressure. You can also have each pair read their scenario and then role-play the scenario in front of the class, trying to find a positive resolution to the situation. Students can brainstorm many ways to resolve conflicts. Each pair also watches another pair’s role-play as commenters: they have the power to freeze the action of the role-play and make comments and suggestions to the role-players to guide them towards a positive resolution. You can use the Task Cards with no questions to generate your OWN questions and activities!

  • Play Writing Exercise: Students can work in groups to create skits or scenes then perform the skits for the class.

Throughout your students’ education and lives, they will indeed grapple with many choices that test their personal values, beliefs and priorities. They will encounter all kinds of situations where they must choose between doing what’s right and doing what’s wrong. This resource can greatly help students recognize situations that involve moral issues and practice becoming better decision-makers. Students will learn what steps they can take to help them navigate and resolve moral dilemmas effectively. The lesson plan and activities also provide students the opportunity to discuss what they would do in different moral/ethical dilemmas. Introducing moral dilemmas in the classroom can open up opportunities not only for debate and critical thinking, but also for personal growth, empathy for other viewpoints, and self-reflection.

The lesson, activities, and scenarios provide guidance for real-life situations. You can use these activities and scenarios as a basis for engaging students in conversations about making decisions between right and wrong, and even have them role-play ways of resolving moral and ethical issues. These activities can help students acknowledge why certain choices might be tempting and ultimately think about other courses of actions and responses that might be better (or that will lead to more positive outcomes).

Making social inferences means understanding information that is inferred or not directly stated. It involves observing a situation, then using clues with background knowledge to figure out what has happened or what is happening. The ability to make social inferences is an essential social skill. The pictures are designed for middle and high school students with images of both younger and older people to help you better differentiate for your students.

Use these 30 pictures, in a variety of ways, to help students make social inferences and develop a social understanding of what they see. Students can use these pictures to develop an understanding of what people’s situations are, what their intentions are, how they are feeling, what they are thinking, and what is likely to happen next. The pictures are relevant and represent every day living.

DESCRIPTION

PowerPoint - 30 Slides/Editable

  • This resource includes a 30 slide editable PowerPoint. Each PowerPoint slide contains an amazing background with the pictures. You can move or resize the pictures any way you like and even add text! This PowerPoint should help you get started on developing your lesson. The PowerPoint can even be used for picture analysis and help facilitate discussion!

30 Pictures on Task Cards ONLY (PDF)

  • If you work with children with severe disabilities or kids who struggle significantly with writing, a “Just Pictures” section is included. This will allow all students a chance to make social inferences. You can use these Task Cards in small groups, during guided instruction, or put under a projector or on the smartboard, so students can make inferences whole-class.

30 Pictures on Worksheets with Lines (Higher Level – Print and Digital)

  • These worksheets include the pictures with lines so students can make their own social inferences without guidance and explain them. The directions ask students to also support their inferences with evidence from the pictures.

30 Pictures on Worksheets with a Blank T-Chart (Mid-Level – Print and Digital)

  • These worksheets include the pictures with a blank T-Chart ("Social Inference" is titled in the first column, and "Picture Evidence" is titled in the second column). The directions ask students to make three social inferences and support their inferences with evidence from the pictures.

30 Pictures on Worksheets with T-Chart Partially Filled (Low-Level – Print and Digital)

  • These worksheets also include a T-Chart table that is partially filled to help get students who need the additional support thinking. The table includes (or provides) one social inference, where students only need to add the evidence. It also includes a piece of evidence from the picture in which they are asked to make an inference based on the piece of evidence provided. Then they make one social inference and support it with a piece of picture evidence on their own.

30 Pictures on Worksheets with Questions (3 Inference Questions and ANSWER KEYS – Print and Digital)

  • These worksheets include the pictures with three inference-based questions. Students are asked to answer the questions and support their social inferences with evidence from the pictures. ANSWER KEYS are included!

30 Pictures on BLANK Worksheets (You generate your own question - PDF)

  • These worksheets include the pictures with a blank section for you to generate your own question and students write it on the line and answer it.
