Love and Compassion Yoga Sequence for Tweens/Teens

By Lara Hocheiser

Teaching your kids love and compassion is a gift that keeps giving.

Compassion teaches us about empathy and can improve our relationships with ourselves and others. Through that, children can build character and self-confidence. Fostering compassion in children is also one of the best ways to prevent bullying. With compassion, kids decision-making will be rooted in a deep, caring ethic.

How can we teach our kids about compassion?

Compassion is a quality that children can learn over time and through practice. We developed three lesson plans so your young yogis can foster love and compassion in three ways:

  • I Love Myself: Use this lesson plan to promote inner love.
  • I Love My Community: Build love, trust, and kindness with friends and family through this lesson plan.
  • I Love My Planet: Use this lesson plan to build gratitude and love for our planet!

Lesson Plans for Teachers and Parents

In our Educator’s edition, we provide 3 easy-to-follow curriculums for teachers, parents, and anyone else that works with tweens/teens. Each lesson plan is formatted to teach an entire class, including discussion prompts, group activities, yoga movement, guided relaxations, crafts, and coloring pages.

Printable Heart-opening Yoga Cards

Learn six (6) yoga poses with our Love and Compassion Yoga Cards. Written for kids, each card comes with easy-to-follow illustrations and step-by-step instructions. Use the yoga deck to teach a full sequence, learn individual poses, play games, or leave the cards in your peace corner when kids want a moment.

By Regina Frazier

Save lots of money while shopping using coupons. This colorful, cheerful binder organizes your coupons and makes it easier for you to find just the right coupon you are looking for while out shopping.Teach your students or children in your household the value of saving money by saving coupons. Many kids can also help out with gathering coupons and cutting them out. Have your students write about ways they can help their family save money. there are a couple of writing prompts that you could use to have your students share ways that they can help their families save money. This does not necessarily mean just using coupons. It could mean saving money by turning off the lights when not in use, not taking long showers, or turning in cans for redemption. Some kids might write about a job they do such as a paper route, mowing the grass or shoveling snow. Some students might choose to discuss buying items on sale at the store and not demanding expensive name brand items."Older students can work on the total amount of savings from using coupons. They can also work on figuring out percentages to show how much money is saved during each shopping trip and totals for each month. Money Skills & Budgeting Assessment -Life Skills ABA Autism SPED

By All Therapy Resources

This assessment can be utilized to identify a baseline for individuals around their knowledge of money. This assessment explores an individual’s ability to identify coins and notes, explores value, the ability to count money and budget. This assessment is divided into seven specific areas and each area can be used in isolation to each other, or together to form a comprehensive assessment.

These areas include:

1. Basic Numeracy Skills

2.Written amounts

3.Colour recognition and value

4.Coin and note recognition

5.Budgeting assessment

6.Monetary values

7.Budgeting

It is ideal that all sections are completed to give a general picture of the level of skills the Student currently has. The assessor needs to complete the scores in each section as well as placing a comment next to the score. It is important that the assessor provides a comment so that all relevant material can be extracted, and the most appropriate program be designed for each Student.

SCORING - the assessor is to place a number score into the column next to the question. The scores go from 1 - 3 depending on the skill of the Student.

1. Completed independently - i.e., no assistance at all from the assessor, (no verbal or gestural prompts).

2. Completed with assistance - i.e., assessor may need to verbally prompt or point to correct response.

3. Can not do - even with prompts the Student is unable to complete correct response.

From the baseline a money recognition / budget program can be developed to meet the individual needs of each Student.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED - The assessor will need to have the following equipment available prior to commencing the assessment:

• Money in the form of coins and notes up to the value of $100.00. Should you not have the physical money, this resource includes the options to print a paper copy of the coins/notes which will suffice.

• A printed copy of this assessment and associated worksheets.

NOTE: This assessment is designed for Australian audiences as it uses Australian money.
