DIRECTIONS FOR USE

WORKSHEETS

NO-PREP, PRINT & GO! You can use just the cut and paste pages or also pass out the additional sentence writing page that matches. The second page can also be used for early finishers. The ABC cut and paste worksheet has the alphabet listed as a reference. The sentences page has an editing checklist on it.

LITERACY CENTER

Cut apart the 26 picture/word cards and place in center. Print one or both recording sheets and place in center. Students choose 6 picture/word cards, copy those 6 words onto their cut and paste sheet, then complete their worksheet. If you place the second worksheet at the station, students will choose 4 of their words to practice sentence writing and editing.

This creative Picasso Self Portraits Unit was designed to be printed and displayed as examples while you teach. Use this PDF file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on a large screen. For this assignment, I asked students to sketch themselves in a Picasso-inspired style-abstract. Students exaggerated their facial features and placed them in different areas on their face. Colored Set A-X, 2 pages per sheet; Suggested use if to place in a math center. Cut the one sheet in half, separating Card A from Card B. Place in math rub with a set of recording sheets run front to back if you want them to access all 24 at once. Or, you can place A-L with the first recording sheet, and replace at a different time with the next 12 cards, to refresh. I have the students write the complete equation on the recording sheet, so for example A) 2+2=4 B) 4+1=5 It’s so much easier for me to check at a glance and gives the students needed practice writing full equations.

Black & White Set A-X, 2 pages per sheet: Suggested use, same as above. Provided for saving on color ink.

Colored Large Pages, 1 problem per page: Suggested use, Teacher uses the cards during Math Talk/Number Talk, discussion at carpet with whole class or small groups. Using a few cards a day to prompt problem solving discussions and strategies for solving. Students discuss solutions and how they solved the problem. Other students add on to that thinking or share the way they solved it. The pages are enlarged so children can view easier in a whole group.

Other thoughts: Students can write answer only. Write answer as an addition equation only. Write answer as a subtraction equation only. Write both an addition & subtraction equation. Or write all 4 parts of a fact family.

Example: Card B, 4+1=5, 1+4=5, 5-4=1, 5-1=4

Problem-Solving: These cards can be used for creating word problems. Take a card, create your own word problems from the card. Example; Card B There were 4 bunnies hopping through the fields, then some more bunnies joined them. Now there are 5 bunnies in all hopping in the field. How many bunnies joined the group of 4?

Algebra Challenge: Card B; 4+x=5 Solve for x.

For this assignment, I asked the students to create a couple sketches of what their insect jar would look like. Next, I asked the students to re-draw their sketch on a Final Copy paper and outline it with a black sharpie marker. Students spent 1-2 class periods coloring (w/colored pencils) the insects and other objects inside their jar, plus, the background around the jar. Need an awesome Art Unit? I have just the thing for you! This creative Mandala Design artwork was designed to be printed and displayed as examples while you teach. Use this Google Slide file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on a large screen. For this assignment, I did a demo and taught the class how to use a ruler and a yardstick. Measurements and Math was a strong focus of the lesson. Next, students spent the rest of the first lesson brainstorming an idea for a stencil (¼ of their full Mandala Design. I taught the students how to rotate their stencil to get a Radial Design. Students started on their Final Copy paper and outlined their drawing in sharpie marker. We used large windows to trace our stencils on the final. Students used colored pencils, colored sharpies, or watercolor paint to color their Mandala Design. I hope you and your kiddos love this! Students were asked to choose a Spooky Structure: school, hotel, house, church, etc. Students learned how to use a ruler and yardstick for measurements. Once the drawing was on Final Copy Paper, students may color and paint with the appropriate art materials. I hope you and your kiddos love this! Enjoy.
