What grade level:

I personally use these texts with Grade 1 and Grade 2 students in French Immersion. I feel confident that students from Kindergarten to Grade Three will find these most useful and teachers can come back to the texts with any students who may be experiencing challenges in their French reading skills. Core French teachers will be sure to add the resource to their repertoire for Grades 4 to 6 as they learn to read and write at the Junior level.

Where is the Object? These seasonal sight word game is great for students who are practicing sight word recognition and beginning reading skills. This game can be used in a pocket chart or on a table top for an early education classroom.

How to Play:

Where's the ________? is a game for centers or whole group instruction where an object is hidden behind a sight word card. A poem is chanted where the student(s) must say the sight word they think the object is behind. Once guessed, the sight word is removed. If the object is behind the sight word card, then the object must be hidden again to play further. If the object is not behind the sight word card, then the poem is chanted again with a new sight word.

This packet is a literature response to several books at Level H and Level I. It can be used as a literature response for a book club or as a whole class reading comprehension packet. The Night Before Class Picture Day

It's the night before class picture day, and kids all down the block are getting ready. Everyone wants to look perfect for the photo. They fix their hair, practice smiles, and choose outfits. At school the next day, they try to stay picture-perfect. Will everything look perfect for the big moment when they say, “Cheese?”

There are four versions included. Two of the versions have roles for three students. One version is three pages and the other version has four pages. The other two versions have roles for four students. One version is three pages and the other version has four pages.

Splat the Cat and the Quick Chicks

When Splat takes home his class project of fertilized chicken eggs, the eggs hatch and chicks wind up all over the place, forcing Splat to round them up. Based on the series created by Rob Scotton.

Holiday Heroes Save Christmas by Adam Wallace

Santa Claus can't deliver presents on Christmas Eve, and he needs backup. But not just anybody can help him - he needs the Holiday Heroes! This Christmas, it's up to the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, a witch, and a leprechaun to fill in for Santa and save Christmas.

There are one versions of the reader's theater for six students, Narrator, Easter Bunny, Leprechaun, Tooth Fairy, Witch, and Santa, that is 5 pages long. Included in this product are pages (full and half size) with clipart to make necklaces or headbands, just add a sentence strip, for the parts except the narrator. These clipart pages are perfect to help identify the role for each student.

The Night Before the Snow Day by Natasha Wing

When snow begins falling heavily on a wintry night, a girl wonders if the next day will bring a snow day filled with snowball fights, sledding, and even more snow.

There are four versions included. Two of the versions have roles for three students. The other two versions have roles for four students. All four versions are four pages each.

How to Catch an Elf Companion by Adam Wallace

It's Christmas Eve and an elf is on the loose... The kids are trying different ways to catch the elf filled with zany traps! Will the kids be successful in catching the elf or will the elf escape again?!?! This book would pair well with STEAM and STEM activities in your classroom.

There are four reader's theater versions included. The two versions have roles for two students and the other two versions are for three students. Each version is 2-3 pages. This resource also includes two versions of the comprehension questions; short answer and multiple choice, and two versions of the word search for the students to complete.

Use these chants to introduce more literature into the classroom and make the books you are using relevant to music! Use the chant to "Freeda the Cheetah" to explore movement and play along with rhythm sticks. Follow up with a lesson on rhyming words. The chant for "One Lonely Fish" is perfect for keeping a steady beat and making this book more engaging for your little ones. Use the chant in "Pokko and the Drum" to play along with Pokko the frog on her adventures. "The Very Quiet Cricket" is great for teaching whisper voice. Finally, try to wake up the elephant from his sleep in "Wakey, Wakey, Elephant"! Use the additional activities with the some of the chants to extend your lessons. Where is the penguin? This winter sight word game is great for students who are practicing sight word recognition and beginning reading skills. This game can be used in a pocket chart or on a table top for an early education classroom.

What is Included:

• Sight word cards for all 220 sight words.
• Penguin cards for hiding

The cards are available in two formats, 6 to a page and 4 to a page to accommodate different sized pocket charts.

Ways to Use:

• small group game
• whole class game
• circle time game
• student led literacy center
• one on one instruction to target specific sight words for struggling students

How to Play:

Where's the Penguin is a game for centers or whole group instruction where a penguin is hidden behind a snowball. A poem is chanted where the student(s) must say the sight word they think the penguin is behind. Once guessed, the sight word is removed. If the penguin is behind the snowball, then the penguin must be hidden again to play further. If the penguin is not behind the snowball, then the poem is chanted again with a new sight word.

This packet is a literature response to several books at Level N, Level O, Level P, Level Q and Level R. It can be used as a literature response for a book club or as a whole class reading comprehension packet. These packets can also be used during guided reading. There are prompts on when to answer each response page in the upper right corner in blue.
