What grade level:

I personally use these texts with Grade 1 and Grade 2 students in French Immersion. I feel confident that students from Kindergarten to Grade Three will find these most useful and teachers can come back to the texts with any students who may be experiencing challenges in their French reading skills. Core French teachers will be sure to add the resource to their repertoire for Grades 4 to 6 as they learn to read and write at the Junior level.

Where is the penguin? This winter sight word game is great for students who are practicing sight word recognition and beginning reading skills. This game can be used in a pocket chart or on a table top for an early education classroom.

What is Included:

• Sight word cards for all 220 sight words.

The cards are available in two formats, 6 to a page and 4 to a page to accommodate different sized pocket charts.

How to Play:

Where's the Penguin is a game for centers or whole group instruction where a penguin is hidden behind a snowball. A poem is chanted where the student(s) must say the sight word they think the penguin is behind. Once guessed, the sight word is removed. If the penguin is behind the snowball, then the penguin must be hidden again to play further. If the penguin is not behind the snowball, then the poem is chanted again with a new sight word.

How to Play:

Where's the ________? is a game for centers or whole group instruction where an object is hidden behind a sight word card. A poem is chanted where the student(s) must say the sight word they think the object is behind. Once guessed, the sight word is removed. If the object is behind the sight word card, then the object must be hidden again to play further. If the object is not behind the sight word card, then the poem is chanted again with a new sight word.

This packet is a literature response to several books at Level H and Level I. It can be used as a literature response for a book club or as a whole class reading comprehension packet. These packets can also be used during guided reading. There are prompts on when to answer each response page in the upper right corner in blue. Use these chants to introduce more literature into the classroom and make the books you are using relevant to music! Use the chant to "Freeda the Cheetah" to explore movement and play along with rhythm sticks. Follow up with a lesson on rhyming words. The chant for "One Lonely Fish" is perfect for keeping a steady beat and making this book more engaging for your little ones.
