Calling all creative minds! Buckle up for a triple threat of fun with school supplies! This activity will help kids practice reading skills and unleash inner artist. ✨
Here's what they'll do:
Cut it up! ✂️ There are silly sentences on this page with their school supply words all mixed up. Carefully cut out each word.
Put it together! Look at the empty boxes. Use your reading skills to figure out the right order for the words to make a complete sentence about a school supply. Paste each word in the correct box.
Color it bright! Now that your sentences are perfect, it's time to paint the items! Use their favorite crayons or markers to color the school supply.
This worksheet is a blast for first graders who are learning about sentence structure and recognizing school supplies. It helps with critical thinking, fine motor skills, and of course, tons of colorful fun!
French Remembrance Day Pyramid Reading-Reading Task Cards-Jour du Souvenir
By La trousse de Madame
French Jour du Souvenir Pyramid Cards - Reading Task Cards
Improve reading fluency, build student confidence in decoding skills, set a path to self-guided learning, and engage students in fun Remembrance Day themed reading fun!
These NO PREP, easy to read decoding task cards are ideal for the K-3 classroom in French immersion, Core French, or Modern Language setting. Aligns perfectly with the Science of Reading and can supplement any reading program. Foster a passion for French language acquisition with materials that engage and ignite a love of learning in your students.
Pyramid Reading Fluency Cards Remembrance Day/Jour du Souvenir
These pyramid readers are a favourite of mine in the classroom! They are easy to print and insert into clear folder so students can be independent in minutes. These cards are great for making a quick learning centre, a great way to check reading fluency on the fly, or to do a deep dive with those that need the one-on-one attention.
What to do:
I make 4 copies of a few cards for centre activities, a few sets for a clear folder binder for ‘shoulder to shoulder, knee to knee partner reading, and a set of cards for a quick quiet reading session if we are getting too silly in class.
Once my students became independent with these reading cards, I made smaller versions and put them on a ring so students can quickly grab them when doing silent reading, editing their writing, or gathering ideas for a journal entry.
Science of Reading:
These cards coincide seamlessly with sounds being taught in any Science of Reading aligned curriculum. They are set up for student success based on the research for increasing reading fluency and building student confidence in the classroom!
Vocabulary included:
Le soldat place la couronne ronde.
Le coquelicot est rouge et noir.
Le garçon porte la couronne pour la classe.
La colombe est une signe de la paix.
La combattante travaille dans un hôpital médicale.
Le chien travaille sur le champ de bataille.
Le cheval aide les soldats depuis cent ans.
Le soldat joue le clairon à 11 heures.

Here's what a few teachers are saying about resources in my store:
Jennifer H. stated: ***** Extremely satisfied
My board has moved toward a strong literacy/phonics focus in Gr. 1/2. This resource was great because it fit in so perfectly with what students had experienced in English and what I needed to teacher. Loved it.
Julie G. said:
***** Extremely satisfied
This has been a fun way for students to review their letters. I love that each page gives students an opportunity to write the letter, find the letter and find the sounds. Merci!
How we use this in class:
I like to set up a variety of centres in my classroom once we are able to consolidate our learning. With concepts from the Science of Reading, we have looked at all the sounds present in the pyramid reading cards. I make copies of the cards and insert into plastic pocket pages that I keep in a binder. I place reading cards into the binder so they face both directions so students can sit across from each other. The students now know that they read each card that is in front of them, wait and listen while their partner reads, and then turn the page. Once they have read them all, they turn the binder and read all the alternate stories that their partner read. My students LOVE this activity and it builds their confidence for when they come to visit me at our small group table and we do our activities around these same sentences.
Effective ways for multiple uses of this resource:
I like to create resources that I can use in many different ways in my classroom. This one resource gets added to my centres:
-whole group reading
-small group reading
-partner reading
-quiet reading
-small group decoding and encoding
-find the sound activity
-writing prompt
-journal writing
-draw the story and label
-close sentences
-build a story from a sentence
Who can use this resource:
Teachers who are just getting accustomed to using strategies from the Science of Reading can use these simple texts to open up independent practice, small group evaluation, or up on a digital screen for whole group instruction and reading practice.
Make a set and send them home with students to build fluency in reading and confidence in reading strategies.
Texts are designed to build a number of common French sounds and get more challenging as they go on.
What grade level:
I personally use these texts with Grade 1 and Grade 2 students in French Immersion. I feel confident that students from K-3 will find these most useful and teachers can come back to the texts with any students who may be experiencing challenges in their French reading skills. Core French teachers will be sure to add the resource to their repertoire for Grades 4 to 6 as they learn to read and write at the Junior level.
Science of Reading:
These texts are aligned with sounds being taught in any Science of Reading aligned curriculum. They are set up for student success based on the research for increasing reading fluency and building student confidence in the classroom!
Once you have established the strategies for identifying sounds, initial sounds, and blending sounds, segmenting sounds, students will be able to use these self-driven passages on their own. What a great way to build learning autonomy!
