A terrific, no prep activity for your blossoming K-4 French writers who may be struggling to take risks with their writing skills. The students absolutely LOVE this activity and have been asking me for days when we get to do ‘le gateau et la crème glacée’. I gradually give students autonomy by giving them the freedom to talk about what they think the Food Pairs have in common.

What to do:

Make a class set of copies of one of the cutie pairs.

Students colour, write, and cut out the writing strip.

Finally, students cut and paste the ends of the writing strip to the back of each item in the pair (ie. One on toast and the other end on butter. Fold in the middle and students can show the big reveal!

Pairs included:

I feel confident that students from K-3 will find these most useful and teachers can come back to the texts with any students who may be experiencing challenges in their French reading skills.
